Let me remind you. Bad Movie. I don't know if it's the Kostner or Busfield factor or that I think most of the script is stupid but yuck.

The baseball team that Costner pretends to own in Lake County is a real comedy of errors.

Only a moron would think the first thing Ricketts should have done was fire Hendry.

First the Cubshad just finished their 3rd season in a row with a winning record and 5th out of 7 seasions since Hendry became GM.
Secondly you don't change GMs in November.

So next year you coould have Tyler Colvin is LF for $400,000 and pay 1/2 of Soriano's salary elsewhere, costing you $9.4 M and thats not better than paying Soriano $18 M?

Yes, I do think Ricketts should have spent a little more money this year. Specifically on some bullpen help, that could have direclty resulted in some wins. Fact is after the first 14 games of the year the Cubs had a lead in every game.

The payroll issue is going to go away next year as it will actually start declining next year and in 2012 takes a huge decline when Z, Aramis, Fuku, Demp, Silva all those deals are up. Over $60 million comes due!!

My only issue with Ricketts is this year and his desire to win this year. I don' think he gave a shit. I think he accpeted that he bought a team that needed to let the cards play out and he just didnt care. He wants to win with the team and organization that he builds.

Thanks for pointing that out. Lilly and Lee come off the books after this season as well.

Ideally the kids start producing and as the big names fall off the books we can get others to replace them.

Part of the problem wiht the Cubs over the years is not the amount they spend but that with no farm system no inexpensive kids to fill positions anywhere so they have to spend at least a million at every position.

Also this idiotic Colvin has a good month let's get rid of Soriano who right now is htting around 300 with 6 homeruns let's give a little while before we name Colvin Jesus Christ.

I do like what we've seen of him so far don't get me wrong. But he could be this years Micah Hoffpauir.

i didn't say it was high. i said there was a percentage. and they come because it's wrigley, not to see the cubs.

And there are people who prefer the cell because of the food and the bathrooms. That's hardly baseball related.

I love when idiots keep whining about the bathrooms. I agree that they aren't great but am I the only one who doesn't go to the ballpark to go to the bathroom? I go in do my business and get out.

And if I was so worried about food I'd stay home and eat there.

The one nice addition to Wrigley this year has been more vegetarian options. I didn't notice them before but we took a friend who's a vegetarian on Saturday and he had no trouble finding options.

Do you think Hendrys job performance has been good? Do you think he should be retained as Cubs GM?

I haven't posted in any Cub topics here like the "Stereotypical Angry Sox Fan." I don't go in and comment on Z being moved to the bullpen or laugh at the failure of any Cub players. Because, like I said, I really don't care.

But this thread isn't really about the Cubs, although some of their fans seem to want to make it about them. It's about an antique ballpark and as much as I'm loathe to admit it, I really don't want that park to go away- or even change very much. It's part of Chicago. And Chicago might be Hooterville in a lot of ways, but having major league teams from both leagues isn't one of them. (Although with the advent of interleague play that isn't so important as it once was.)

Really, the only reason I originally posted in the thread was because my fellow Sox fan, ASFB used it as a jumping off point for bashing all things White Sox. And I don't mind him slamming the Sox. There's plenty to slam. But I'd prefer he do it amongst a group of other Sox fans rather than in a forum where Cub fans are going to join in. Because cubbiegirlshamus and Mike Murphy and Matt Abbatacola are never going to go to the lengths in slamming the Cubs that supposed Sox fans like Mike North and dan bernstein will in bashing the Sox.

And my major point about the Sox is after 30 years, Bizarro Reinsdorf should have figured out that developing your own players is a bit better of an approach than patching a team together every Winter trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

Now The Chairman is on to his Del Negro nonsense....Of course the cowering media in this town forgets that REINSDORF hired Del Negro after a 3 hour meeting discussing Del Negro's "Defensive Philosophy".

WRONG....You should change the GM in November, if you think he's a bad one. that way whomever is put in that position, has the chance to make all the moves that go on during the winter meetings and through the free agent signing period. Yeah, the Cubs technically had a winning season last year, in that they won a couple more than they lost. But anyone that doesn't consider the season and the moves Hendry made prior to it, to be disastrous, is nuts. He has overpaid far too many players to LOOOOONG term contracts and signed guys that were trouble. That said, the moves he made to obtain Carlos Silva for Milton Bradley has worked out better so far than I ever imagined it might. In addition, the Marlon Byrd signing is looking like a far better move than I anticipated it being-even if it also keeps Tyler Colvin from playing more. But the manner in which he failed to upgrade a horrible bullpen, remains a major disappointment and will likely be the reason the Cubs will not be in any post-season action. I do hope that he's able to make a move or two at/near the trading deadline that rectifies that situation and alters the teams chances. But as well as the starting pitching and the hitters have done so far, there is no reason why they should only be 13-13 at this point, other than the awful bullpen. With as much money as Hendry has been given to aquire players, just having a winning team is not really a great accomplishment.

Now that he got the ugly sign up, I heard Ricketts is shaking down the rooftop owners again. Not sure I can handle Year Two.
