Matt Wszolek. Director of Sales and Promotions fired for 'sagging attendance' Clearly he's fault that people aren't going to games. Definitely need more shitty bobbleheads and C list celebs doing the 7th inning stretch.

Hendry has got to be next.

You could fire Hendry for the same reason. He's the one who is putting that shit on the field that nobody wants to go and see.

It's probably more of a case where Ricketts is installing "his guys" at this point. He's owned the team now for about a year and he's had the opportunity to observe people working in the organization long enough to get a feel for who needs to be pruned off the tree. It would be funny if the guy was someone he encountered on "Undercover Boss" and discovered what a bad employee he was, while undercover. He should have noticed by now that he should make a change with the GM position, but that seems to have escaped his attention.

marketing in baseball is the dumbest thing Ive ever heard

people make up their own minds on whether to buy stuff or goto games

I can say that never in my life has the Cubs marketing director ever influenced me in buying tickets or souvenirs or cubs gear...and never will

ballparks as well, sell themselves...u either like it or u dont

the only think marketing is good for is promoting extraneous things like wrigley field tours and the cubs convention...thats about it

You make my head hurt. Marketing in any industry is essential to the product. The basic fact is that, while you are not prone to making decisions based on a commercial or promotion, there are many people who do.

Let me throw a scenario at you. You are the father of a family of 4 (wife, 2 kids-ages 4 and 5). You want to take the kids to their first ballgame. You look at the schedule and see game A with no promotion scheduled and game B with Beanie Baby day or kids run the bases day or something of the like. Which game do you pick? If you're like me, you pick the day with promotion in hopes that it keeps the kids entertained and maybe, just maybe introduces another generation of Cubs fans. How is this possible? Marketing. Without marketing, baseball will go the way of the dinosaur.

By the way, how is the research going?

Wrong. If you think that way then the Marketing guy has done his job.
