MILWAUKEE — Though it's considered a given Aramis Ramirez will be back in 2011, he said Saturday he's undecided on whether to return for $14.6 million or exercise an escape clause to become a free agent.

"That's going to be after the season," he said. "I haven't talked to my agent about it. … ( The Cubs) have a lot of other things they have to address."

Even if he returns, the Cubs seem unlikely to pick up his $16 million option in 2012 when they can exercise a $2 million buyout.

Ramirez said his poor season isn't that bad.

"If you want to talk about the numbers, I have 400 at-bats and 22 homers, and that's not bad, and 70-plus RBIs," he said.

Ramirez sat out his fifth straight game with a sore right quad and doesn't expect to return until Monday. He said the naming of the new manager won't affect his decision for 2011.

"It doesn't matter," he said. "You still have to have good players. That's the key.

"They don't know what they're going to do at first, or second. I'm sure they would like to add a couple of relievers, probably another starter."

He's over .300 with good power numbers in the second half. I don't know the market but if that is enough to secure another 3-4 year contract in the $10-14 million range, then that could be $35-$50 million guaranteed.

If he stays next year and completely sucks, he'll get his $16 mil and then he'll be 33 years old and less likely to get a decent contract.

His HR and RBI totals are actually decent with only 404 ab's. His average is down this year. Maybe he will opt out and move to the south side.

He was hurt last year and sucked this year. I know it only takes one stupid GM (unfortunately for him Hendry may be that one stupid GM) to give him a bad contract but I can't imagine anyone offering a 3-4 year deal.

There aren't that many everyday 3B jobs open this off-season. Red Sox are looking to move Youkalis back to 3B and bring in a Konerko or Fielder to platoon at DH/1B with V-Mart/Ortiz. Tigers need a 3B, but they'll likely be the winner of the Beltre lottery, as they have something around $80 million in payroll freeing up after this season.

That leaves the AL West (save Texas) and maybe the White Sox.

A move to the AL could be the right move for Aramis, he could DH.

I would be all for him taking his talents to the south side.

I just saw on the ticker that he is exercising his option.
