The Cubs series that began with a 1-0 victory over the Padres, will go a long way in deciding which (Braves or Padres) team will get the Wild card playoff spot. Carlos Zambrano threw another good game to get the victory in game 1, with Carlos Marmol loading the bases before getting the save in the 9th inning. Dempster will face Latos in game 2 today as the Padres will try to get back to the top spot in the Wild card race. Atlanta currently leads by a half game. The teams are tied in the loss collumn (69), but Atlanta has 88 wins, and San Diego has 87. Randy Wells will face Chris Young (finally back from the DL) in game 3 and Tom Gorzellany will face former Cub farmhand Jon Garland in the finale. Dempster ought to give the Cubs a chance in todays game, but games 3 and 4 look like a good chance for the Padres to win a couple. But if the Cubs win today, the pressure on the Padres is gonna build and you never know...either way these games matter and that makes them a bit more interesting.

I hope SD can pull out the wild card at the least.

A 3 hit 1-0 win by the Quade Squad has ruined the padres playoff hopes.

The SD run this year was really too good to be true. Other than AGone and maybe Latos, the team has some nice players but no real stars. I have been expecting them to fall out of it all year. I think it's a credit to Bud Black and the rest of the good young players they have that they stayed in it this long.

Apparently Fuk is hurt and is "out for the season". The season is 3 more fucking days long!! For the last week I have seen stories on 10 or so season ending injuries which is just weird because its almost the end of the season anyway. Damn you sports writer people for diminishing the value of being "done for the season".

THIS !!!

And did you see how the Cubs scored their one run? Basehit (aramis), pinch runner (barney), BUNT/Sacrifice (Nady - a veteran bunting? - god forbid), then a basehit (some rookie)....and Cubs win 1 to 0. Liked seeing that out of Quade.

Quade looks to be ok...but the Cubs record at Wrigley (w/ quade) was not good. Whatever the hell that means.

when the padres were doing good, the Hairston bros. were in the middle of everything...since theyve been losing, I havent heard a thing about either of them

this week, i noticed that neither played

they must be hurt...and thats why the Padres hitting failed

That or the sheer supreme godliness that is Quade.

Personally I think it was all Jerry Harriston Sr's fault
