It really is upsetting to me that Jim Hendry is still in charge. Is Ricketts afraid of making ANY kind of decisions?

I would rather they keep Quade than go with Wedge.

how about Ozzie coming to the Cubs? While I don't give it much chance of happening, I would like the idea of Ozzie coming to the north side.

Granted Ozzie is a loud mouth and probably was a little to distracted with tweeting, websites and dealing with his children this year but if the Sox and Ozzie due part ways, I hope Hendry gives him a call.

Ozzie might be motivated enough to stick it to the Sox, and he might be crazy enough where the burden of the 102 year drought might not wear on him unlike Lou or Dusty.

But as i said earlier, I don't see this happening. I am sure the Sox will look for compensation and if the Sox do not want him on the north side I can see the Sox looking for a lot in return. Plus if Kaplan's column in the Trib today is correct, Ricketts would not want to disrupt the partnership/relationship he and the Sox have i.e, Comcast Sportsnet. If this is true, ricketts would be a douchebag.

Stone on B&B was spot on as usual. His basic point being anyone who evaluates Quade and this team based on his current management stint is an idiot. Playing for nothing basically means nothing. We got a look at Castro and some other young players and that's great. Quade having a winning record means dick. There are managers available who have guided teams through penant races and playoff runs. Quade and/or Sandberg has done none of that.

The other point he made is that the manager you select is based on the team you plan to have. So maybe a young team needs a young manager, but who's to say that Girardi doesn't want to take a young team and turn them into a winner? He did it with a group of high paid free agents, maybe he wants to see if he actually has any managerial talent. If he wants to come, I say pay him and hope for the best. Maybe they'll actually have a star or two in a couple years, either home grown or bought. At least the guy knows how to win.

Stone also said that Hendry gave Quade a gigantic contract.

At this very moment, the Quade Squad are taking another shut out into the 8th. The starting lineup, with the exception of soriano, was basically the Iowa Cubs opening day starting lineup.

Unless the White Sox where playing like this after firing Ozzie, then it would be the greatest move any GM made.

Note to Quade if he gets the job, don't put Scales at 3rd ever again. Thanks

It looks like the Pirates are going to axe their manager after today's season ending game. The same with the Brewers. Quade may be leading the Pirates back to glory in the near future.

HOUSTON -- Chicago Cubs chairman of the board Tom Ricketts flew to Houston on Sunday before their season finale to thank the team for its effort this season, particularly over the last 35 games under interim manager Mike Quade.

The Cubs have posted the second-best record in the National League (24-12) since Aug. 23, when Quade took over for retired manager Lou Piniella.

The latest Cubs news from baseball beat reporter Bruce Levine. Blog

One player, who asked for anonymity, said the meeting with the entire team and coaching staff was "a good one, short and sweet, thanking us for our contributions at the end of this season and a message to go get 'em for next year."

The process for hiring a new manager will end sometime in the middle of October, according to Cubs general manager Jim Hendry. There are currently three strong candidates for the job, and at this point, Quade may be considered the front-runner.

"It's been an extremely well-run club the last 36 games," Hendry said on Sunday. "We won a lot of games, which I said from day one wasn't going to be a requirement for Mike to be a contender in the end, but it sure has been nice. He's mixed and matched the veterans and young players as well. Yeah, he's done a fine job, he really has."

Iowa Cubs manager Ryne Sandberg and former Indians manager Eric Wedge appear to be the other finalists for the job. Wedge has had a second and a third interview with the Cubs, according to major league sources.

Quade said on Sunday that he'll go home in the next four or five days and wait to hear from Cub management as to what their next plan is.

Hendry is on record as saying that Quade will be interviewed sometime after the season ends.

Bruce Levine covers the Cubs for ESPNChicago.com and ESPN 1000.

Why has Wedge received 3 interviews? WTF is that about?

No shit, if you didn't learn enough about him after the first interview, then you fucking suck and shouldn't be involved in hiring anyone for anything.

Agreed. Hendry has no clue what he is doing. I bet Wedge will have some choice words (which won't be made public) for Hendry if he doesn't get hired. He really thinks he's brilliant for promoting Quade and Ricketts just goes with the flow with his ludicrous "good job boys for the strong finish" BS. What a total joke. At least they have Wilkens doing the drafting. At least Hendry brought him in.

Its going to be Wedge. Hendry has some strange hard on for him and the fan base doesn't know him. The fans love Sandberg and that would put all the heat on Hendry when the ship sinks again.

Hendry didn't want anything to do with Giradi four years ago but can't wait to slob his knob now. I hope Joe tells him to go fuck himself.

Hendry is nothing but a reactionary GM. Reactionaries are worthless and in fact can be very dangerous, no matter what walk of life they are in.

perfectly said...that is my general take on Hendry as well...thats what i mean when i refer to him as starry-eyed...he's like a little brother mentality, he has no direction or originality of his own

Maybe the Cubs already have an agreement with Girardi. I hope so because if they don't, this entire search is a joke. Actually, either way it's a joke. Brenly already said thanks...but no thanks.
I still can't believe that Jim fucking Hendry is still employed by the Cubs & is about to hire his 3rd Cubs manager.
Tom Ricketts...grow a set & clean fucking house!

If the Yankees let Girardi go who do they hire? Torre's not going back. LaRussa? Doubtful. Willie Randolf? No. Bobby Valentine? That would be funny but no. Win or lose I just can't see the Yankees letting go of Girardi.

I don't think they'll let him go. The longer this goes on, the more I get the feeling that Girardi really wants to come to Chicago. I think he's going to take less money to come manage the Cubs

Wedge interviewed with the Pirates today. Hendry must be getting ready to drop some serious money on him to lure him back.
