Talk about ruining his reputation. He goes from the manager to end the curse to the idiot who almost blew it.

How about a new nickname "Jack Ass Joe Maddon".

Fucking idiot still has my blood boiling...

And it takes the 184M man Jason Heyward to get the troops together to get them re-focused.

Wow.

Yes this feeling will fade with time but damn.

I seriously wonder what Dale Sveum and the new Sox manager were thinking about those moves?

I wish I could also get by this. As soon as he pulled Hendricks my buddy looked at me and said "We should be enjoying this but I'm so pissed right now I can't" And then everything else happened which compounded it.

Joe is the luckiest guy in the sports world right now.

Obviously what made it bad was that whatever you were trying to prevent by taking him out happened anyway and you burned a guy that was cruising. I thought for sure Hendricks was going 7 innings. Heard someone say it was like Maddon had already decided to use Lester no matter what and couldn't help himself.

Maddon panicked in the 3rd and got Lester started warming up too soon. Then the Cubs had a long inning, and it got to the point where they had to use him while he was ready, or they burned him for nothing.

I felt that they should have brought Chapman in at that point. [I was on board with not letting any Indians player face any Cub pitcher 3 times, I understand the math there.] Then let Chapman pitch the 6th and start warming Lester up at that point and have him pitch the 7th through 9th unless the Cub lead got really large like 9-1 and you could afford to go to a righty like Edwards or Grimm.

If the Cubs had just held the lead and won the game straight out, I would have been amazingly excited at the end of the game. Instead, the ending felt more like relief than excitement, even though I am very happy about this victory.

The Cubs just made that game a lot more stressful than it needed to be. And yet, it will go down as one of the most exciting (albeit sloppy) games in World Series history. Still hard to believe it got tied up and then went into rain delay.

Even Bernstein was on him during transition. That's when you know it's bad.

Hey the Cubs won the World Series but I want to be a petulant asswipe and dwell on any and all negatives, real or perceived, as my primary response to a World Series victory.

I'm not dwelling on anything. I just gave you my honest emotions after a victory that all Cubs fans have waited a lifetime to see. Instead of being 100% excited, a larger percentage of my emotion was relief.

Or I could lie and just say I was totally happy with the way that game went down.

It doesn't take away from the accomplishment. It merely reduces my personal level of enjoyment of that moment. I was steaming, scared, and upset, and it is lingering.

Can't argue with any of this. Hendricks had only given up 1 run and was commanding his pitches well. He was the ERA king and winner in the NLCS. Not only did he deserve to finish the 5th to qualify for a potential win, but should have gone 7 innings, with Lester doing the 8th and 9th and the overused Chapman taking the night off. Terrible time to have a terrible game, but that is what it was for Madden. He was fortunate to get away with the bad moves. And I want to know if Baez was on his own with that bunt with 2 ,strikes, or if Joe called for that. STUPID.

Yes he won but the point is he jeopardized the season with his panic.

Hat's off that he won but again, the point is his reputation is now that of a a guy who can't manage his pitching staff.

I've received texts from 3 different people who aren't Cub fans and it's been a variation of this:

"Great game but what in the hell was Maddon doing?"

Like Denis said, it didn't even have to get to the point of thinking "Here we go again".

I hate to be on the side of ES but oh well. I'm happy as hell today but going forward, Joe worries me.

I haven't dwelled on it, but he had a terrible string of decisions and a bad night.

That's a matter of mental discipline then; other than his own peculiar choices, that's certainly not on Joe.

I guess we all have to get this off our chests so we can move forward and feel good about this which is crazy in and of itself.

Thanks a lot Jack Ass Joe!

A lot of that post rings true. But questioning some of the Skipper's decisions while the memories are fresh in our minds makes sense too. Just because it all worked out, doesn't mean there weren't significant errors made by Joe that should be questioned.

I think Joe must have read Tony LaRussa's NYT best seller "How to Mismanage the Fuck Out of a Bullpen and Still Win a World Series"

That being said, they won, so who really cares?

Another question for Joe: If you don't trust your bullpen, why did you have 11 pitchers on the roster? Some extra rag arm took a spot from LaStella or Matt Szczur.

Most Cubs fans have been able to successfully do multiple things. They've been to celebrate a title and spend a little time questioning the decision making of Maddon. This proves that Cubs fans can walk and chew gum and that managers matter.

Good point Jimmy. They def. could have used a LH bat like LaStella.

Let's hope Joe learns from this.

They would have banished his ass and never put him back on the roster if they wanted to punish him. Instead, he watmed a seat on the bench and was a cheerleader.
