Pretty sure going into the Cubs convention, the Cubs agreed to have Bud determine the compensation for Theo?

3 weeks ago now? lol

Pitchers and Catchers report in 27 days!

I read somewhere that it may end up being a substantial player. Jerry needs to worry about his own god damn team and get out of Bud's ear.

Depends on the quality and amount of the bud I would guess.

It was a terrible SCR report that n "unnamed AL manager" told someone it might be a substantial player.

And they reported t.

Jerry has been in Buds ear since 1977, not going to stop now. Jerry would have been a better commish!

The longer it drags out the worse it is for the Cubs. Boston can point out the moves Theo has made to improve the Cubs organIzation and demand higher compensation. I have no idea why they didn't settle this two months ago.

You really think that is how this will happen at this point?

Both teams have agreed to let Bud settle it, end of story, they dont now present their cases, but I am sure you have another take on it.

Boston certainly hasn't 'forgotten about it' and they're not about to 'close the book on it.' Here's a quote from Ben Cherington from this past weekend.

Is the gap large?

“It’s hard to quantify,’’ Cherington said. “It’s just a disagreement. There was an expectation when Theo left that the Red Sox would receive significant compensation for allowing the Cubs to hire him and we haven’t been able to agree on what ‘significant compensation’ means.’’

Doesn't sound like he's ready to close the book on anything to me. I read another article that said Pud doesn't want front office personnel to leave their teams with time left on their contract and he may severely penalize the Cubs to make an example of them.

I just don't understand why the Cubs let it get to this point. They moved quickly to hire Theo and they should have paid the compensation and be done with it. Now they have to deal with Pud and who knows what that stupid bastard will come up with.

he can say all he wants, fact is the Red Sox agreed to letting Bud decide it before the cubs did.

This is not an arbitration hearing, this is not submit your thoughts type of scenario.

In addition to Jerry's recommendation of Castro being appropriate compensation.

Said many times Jerry would make a great commish. He is basically doing the job anyways, at least the important stuff. He was chair of the CBA deal, he chairs the relocation and franchise comm. Pretty much doing the job.

Do you think Bud created the cap of foreign players and drafts on his own????

I guess the fact the Cubs started spending big money on these 2 areas, then a cap came out of know where was happen bad luck?

There is no precedent for "substantial" compensation and Selig will go with that. It'll be someone inconsequential.

Substantial can be monetary as well? Or 1972 Jerseys?

It sounds to me that it is in the nature of an arbitration. Each side presents a proposal and Pud chooses. A judicious Pud would treat it like a mediation and helping them along by letting them know if he has to make a decision, neither will be happy.

JR doesn't have to be comissioner. Pud is his puppet and 75% of the owners follow everything he proposes.

This is why the Cubs are going to get screwed out of a decent prospect even though Jerry let his own god damn manager go to another team while under contract for absolutely nothing. He would rather screw the Cubs than make his team better.

And thus, Mark Cuban not allowed to buy the Cubs. 75% of the owners follow him because he is smart and is always looking to curtail the big spending teams....like the Cubs now.

The one time JR spent wildly was on Belle and that didn't go well.

Hasn't gone real well for the current team either. I would consider Manny, Rios, and Dunn "wild spending"

None of them are at the top of the market like Belle and only one was a FA.

Albert Belle did just fine it was the team as a whole that was a let down, The White Sox were a .500 team for those two years and it wasn't Joey Belle's fault or Geraldo for that matter.

That was the start of the outrageous salaries. I don't think it was a terrible signing beyond the fact they didn't win.

Belle was actually a good player for the 2 years he was with Chicago's blue collar champions. I believe he was a Silver Slugger in his 2nd and final year with our beloved working class hero's.
