1st inning, in LF Junior Lake was wearing the grey road uniform with CHICAGO across the front instead of the one with CUBS across the front.

Maybe Len caught it, but they mentioned it on the first play and someone in the bullpen said something to him. Good laugh, move on.

Someone this made a constant headline for ESPN tonight as a tease on a number of breaks tonight?

I believe technically you can be ejected for wearing the wrong jersey....
Quote:
1.11
(a) (1) All players on a team shall wear uniforms identical in color, trim and style, and all players uniforms shall include minimal sixinch numbers on their backs.
(3) No player whose uniform does not conform to that of his teammates shall be permitted to participate in a game.

Maybe Castro could start wearing the wrong uni.

While on the topic:

I do not like the new road uni's, Sam I Am. I do not like them in a box, I do not like them with a (Jake) Fox.
They're bad. They look like the cheap knock-offs that idiots buy at Champ's when they need something resembling a jersey because they might go to a game next month.

I think it was close enough, that nobody noticed and conform per that rule of the same size numbers, trim , color.

Have to remember he was being taunted all night by the Lf fans till 1 AM

Lack of sleep was probably the reason why he made the mistake.

Is it really Lake's mistake? I'm assuming the clubhouse guy doesn't actually put multiple grey uni's in everybody's locker as some sort of "test".

he does have a good excuse, as I am sure someone puts that jersey in his locker.

that is absolutely correct. Surprised he wasn't ejected.

True

After the Pirates' final out in the bottom of the first inning, Lake immediately went into the clubhouse to change. He said he got confused because both jerseys were hanging in his locker, and he chose the wrong one.

"Everyone looked at me," he said. "I see two gray, I take the wrong one."

This happens fairly often with teams that have two jerseys in the same color: it happened at least once with the Astros' old brick red jerseys where one said "ASTROS" and the other said "HOUSTON," it's happened to the Giants, it's happened to the Brewers. Solution: stop giving teams so many alternate jerseys. No one needs more than one white, one grey, one color. Half the teams don't even need the color.

It's a story, I think, because it draws attention to how cheap and lame these new road uniforms are. They look like Chinese counterfeits.

Still not Lake's problem, IMO. Why is the attendant putting two gray jerseys in the locker for one game?

I think teams tend to let the starting pitcher decide what the team wears for his start, so maybe a pitcher would have said "no thanks, I'd rather not look like a chad today" and wear the regular grey jersey.

Those unis are just terrible.

The thing is, the regular grey jerseys aren't even any good. The lettering looks scrunched up and distorted, the lettering has no red while the numbers have no blue, and for years they wore those stupid red-billed hats with them. But next to the Marshall's uniform, it's terrific.

As an aside I am also done with the warm up jerseys as road/alternates.

Yeah, with the colored armpits and shoulders and stuff? I don't like it. Looks silly.

It should just be white uniform, grey uniform with city name, and team-color third jersey for some teams.

I don't mind them as compared to the other gray uniform.

That being said the blue is way better.

These were their best non-home uniforms. They should use slight variations on these.

Why does baseball even need multiple uniforms? (let's please ignore the jersey sales revenue argument in this instance)

It makes sense for football, basketball, and hockey because players are moving all throughout the playing area, and you don't want to mistake an opponent for a teammate in the heat of the moment, and make a bad pass or play. But in baseball, you have none of that. Everyone could be wearing white or gray, and it wouldn't effect the game at all. Why did Baseball even start with the home and away uni's?

No sport needs unis really. I've played pick-up basketball for years and the only time anybody tried to require similar shirts was at CSFMB games. And conns couldn't even get that right.

Because grey flannel didn't need to be laundered as often on road trips as white flannel, and we don't change tradition, mister (except when everyone wore powder blue pullovers and beltless pants in the '70s).

I'm driving to Cooperstown for Bonafacio's induction in 2031. You're more than welcome to tag along.

Incidentally, according to the indispensable NHLuniforms.com, hockey didn't have second sets of sweaters until 1934, when it occurred to people that maybe the Canadiens and Red Wings shouldn't wear red at the same time.

Just a FWIW, the reason the new grey jerseys look so cheap is because they are "1920 inspired" or something like that. They are supposed to be retro, or whatever.

Even worse. If you want to go retro actually do it.
