80 AB's and he is promoted to AAA from AA. I guess jed's 500 AB's at each level in the "Cub Way" didnt apply here.

But I did see he batted .415, with a .494 OBA, both impressive stats from a guy that couldn't stay healthy and was deemed to be the one runt of the litter which might not make it.

Let's see how AAA treats him. if he gets 80 AB's and bats .350, no reason to not move him on uP!

he is, but he was promoted because he is batting over .400 and yes I agree he will be up here.

he hasnt been good in the minors and has been hurt or suspended for most of his time down there, so you never had a chance to see what he can do.

Many of course then tagged him as the guy who wouldnt work out because odds are against so many of your prospects turning into quality pros, but the big meal that makes us fat asses that Theo promised might be coming. Your OF is Soler, Almora, Schwarber and your IF is Bryant , 8 top 10 SS's, Alacantra and Rizzo.

Something similar to the Pitt OF.

Theoretical future lineup?

1B-Rizzo
2B-Baez
SS-Russel
3B-Castro
LF-Bryant
CF-Alcantara
RF-Soler
C-Schwarber

I'd buy that for a dollar ...

Almora in CF. Alcantara will sub all over.

9 World Series Championships.

Yeah, I don't think so either. LF or 1B. Seems like a prime candidate to be traded for pitching.

Play him just enough at C in the minors that trade bait-wise a team will value him higher.

I get he won't catch, but I can't write in whomever will be catching; can only work with what's known.

nowadays teams are so damn eager to move players off their positions because they might not be able to improve. I don't get it. Especially if the team sucks anyway, who cares if he can't catch? maybe there's a 10% chance he can.

If you can hit, teams are apt to preserve your knees moving you to a different position in today's game. However, if you are great defensively, and can hit, you probably stay behind the plate.

Yeah, why move Schwarber? The other 7 hitters in the lineup will all be OPSing 1000, so they burn him out early at catcher, big deal.

I know that's one of the explanations. Don't like it. Who cares if his knees are shot in six years? He'll be a free agent by that time. not just catcher either. why move Bryant before you have to? remember Bob Horner? that dude was a butcher. who cares?

I don't think Bryant would get traded in that scenario. It's not smart GMing to trade a player with old man knees when you wouldn't get good value in return... Bob who?

bob horner was an ATL 3baseman in the early 80s. dude could flat out hit but sucked in the field and was a lazy ass. went to japan in the collusion era and later came back to suck for StL. I think he just didn't feel like playing anymore.

It's too bad Edwin Jackson will still be pitching on that team.

His OBP is .388. He's hitting .286.

I still want him up here.

He'll be up in Sept. and I can't see why he wouldn't start the season in Chicago next year, assuming he does well and stays healthy. Unless of course they want to play the service time game which would be unfortunate. Obviously he'd be an upgrade over Ryan "how in the hell did he get a 2 year contract" Sweeney.

He is on a major league contract. I don't think service time comes into play that much.

I am expecting a lot from him as well. He has been paid and there were clear other options, but this was the chosen path.

I'm aware of that. Not sure how that factors in to his big league service time clock??

I think only options matter. He is on a 9 year contract...and the 9 year contract started three years ago (2012). Soler has 4 options in that contract.

He was optioned three times so far. He has one left. So he can be sent down one more year (an unlimited amount of times) during his contract.
