I didn't even factor in his terrible Boston signings. He has probably wasted 3/4 of a billion dollars of his owner's money.

We’re 5 games in! 97% of 2019 baseball left to go. It’s clear there are issues with the bullpen. We knew it going in. Hopefully this can be fixed with a Kimbrel signing and/or a trade or two in June.

The only real disgust I have with this regime is Heyward. $26 million this year. Bryce fucking Harper signed for $26 million a year. That home run and bat flip last night in Washington was outstanding. He would have been a hoot at Wrigley. Another home run from him this afternoon. .652 OBP thus far. I’ll never let this down because I’m pretty damn sure if the Cubs matched Philadelphia’s offer, Harper would’ve chosen Chicago.

How soon will Theo be extending Schwarber for 6/$60m?

Meant to put this in the Bote thread, but oh well...

The more you think about this team, the more frustrating it is. Money was spent poorly. Changes weren't made to fix obvious weaknesses. For anyone to say the Heyward signing is worth it because they got a ring, they would be wrong. Then to tell fans that money would never be a issue when needed and not to spend is pathetic. At this rate, everyone should be booed Monday afternoon.

His last 2 at bats tonight were pathetic. For a team that had 12 hits tonight, they had lots of bad at bats as well.

This thing is close to being over in week 1. If Ricketts really cared, he would be on the phone telling Theo fuck money, bring in everyone you can for this bullpen. I wouldn't trust Theo to make the right moves, but it's just money.

Theo should honestly be fired for this mess. He has a bullpen everyone knew was bad going into the season, and did nothing to improve it, His big ticket RF is useless. He can't hit and had a error today, what's the point. Chatwood is wasting a roster spot. Yu is a mental midget. He better pray that he looks good tomorrow, or this will really get bad. Theo can blame Joe all he wants, but he has assembled this shit show.

Apologies UMN .... I now remember that it's this dipshit I was thinking of.

The truth hurts guys. It's ok to speak bad about a shit team. You don't have to continue to kiss Theo's ass.

I'll pass judgement in in 7 weeks, by the end of May I'll know what we got.

Bullpen looks bad, could be a bad stretch. The bats look good, if that continues and you add Morrow and another BP arm..that should be enough for a WC.

Are we really saying the Cubs are a bad offensive team ?

Not bad, but not great as currently constructed.

I mean there are probably 5 teams in the NL who are better.

They scored 27 runs in the opening series .They should be 3-1. The reason they aren’t is because the pitching has to cool off to even be considered hot garbage .

Texas is AL's version of Colorado.

But I said they arent great and I dont see how you can disagree. There are definitely 5 better offensive teams. 2 in the NL Central alone.

They are good, if a few guys pick it up they could be very good/great but they arent right now.

It's very early, they could easily turn it around.

The bullpen will probably be good. Lots of overreactions there.

And I dont know anyone anywhere who defends the Heyward signing.

Even if it isn't, that is the easiest thing to fix on the fly. Every team has one good reliever and 20% of the league are sellers by May 1. The problem is the strain on the aging starters (and the young one who has never gone 200+)

One of the hosts on ESPN 1000 thought Joe's multiple day preset lineups don't contribute to a sense of urgency. They're data sound. But, they kill hot streaks. They brutalized Almora last year. Do these guys really need a heads-up on they're playing schedule if they're not a pitcher? Then this playing everybody thing. Who cares if a non producing bum sits a long time?

Nothing like having to rely on an already mentally fragile pitcher who was awful last time out to stop a losing streak . 1-5 looms .

That seemed to be the thinking behind sending Happ down, i.e., it would put less pressure on Joe to find playing time for all the future core guys. Instead you would have a normal utility player like Zagunis on the bench that you didn't give a shit whether he played or not and could just play him purely when needed, not for development. But Zagunis has been playing as much as Happ probably would have.

Looks like Schwarber is in the lineup today, probably only because Zagunis is in for Heyward.

That will play. No hits, good control (i think he pitched around Freeman) and he was sitting at 94.

AIR SCHWARBER WITH A WEB GEM!!!!!11

Darvish has only given up 1 and he's at ~70 pitches through 4... so hey can the bullpen keep "us" down 2-3 runs for 3-4 innings?

This split screen of the grounds crew raking dirt and a Honda commercial is truly some next level shit.

Also, Max Fried (who Zach Zaidman of all people wondered why his name isn't pronounced Fried like Fried chicken) has a perfect game through four.

[Insert classic rock non-sequitur here]

Needs more ATTITUDE and BITE tbh... RED ALERT!!!

Edit: Max Fried is now perfect though 5 innings. #ThatsCub

Holy shit at dinner my baseball uncle said Darvish (autocorrected to catfish.... How appropriate) would pitch 4 innings tonight. And Darvish was pulled at exactly 4IP(+) @ 71 pitches.... And lenzaidmancubstv started talking about the weather.... fuckin lol man. No wonder this thread is eerily quiet tonight, eh?
