Jackson is one year older.

I'd rather the Cubs overspend for someone they wanted(Sanchez) than someone they settled on(Jackson). But I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Jackson just yet. Most big name FA signings suck in their first year with the Cubs. I'll hold out hope that Jackson rebounds in year two. If he doesn't, then it was a terrible signing.

Think JORR is implying the Venezuelan's age is doctored.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

More importantly, I don't see the point of getting worked up over Jackson's horrific year. It's one bad year in a meaningless season. And if the complaint is about Theo's talent evaluation, well, nobody's perfect.

But guys like that have value. There are less balls put into play. That's the thing about pitching. Guys like Mark Buehrle- and there aren't a lot of them- are unbelievably consistent in hitting spots and doing what they want. But that can only take them so far. Guys like Edwin Jackson and Gavin Floyd, if they can find consistency in their deliveries they have the opportunity to have a special year. And most guys like them do put together that giant season at least once in their careers. The idea is to have them do it for you. I think the Cubs signed Jackson at the right time. They'll probably get his best years. The next team that signs Floyd will probably get his. The Sox will get a draft pick or some minor league bums.

if you're even thinking about competing in '14 or '15 you're going to need guys like Jackson. You aren't going to do it with whatever prospects he may bring. He's signed relatively cheap for the guy he is and he has good upside to have a huge year within the next few seasons. I wouldn't be so quick to move him unless the shaky debt structure of the Ricketts family has pushed the ETA for competitive baseball back to '17 or '18.

Joe comes out as both the most wrong AND the most prescient in this thread about the Cubs. I think we are looking at '17 or '18 IF the Cubs have somehow worked out a far better TV deal. And the Jackson signing continues to mystify me as Gordon Whittenmire continues to say the Cubs are short on money. If you're going to be bad, be bad. Don't sign a bad pitcher to a bad (albeit frontloaded) contract.

This is only being posted to remind Darkside the Dipshit (that has a ring to it!) that there were most definitely people who made posts in support of the Jackson signing. A quick look through this thread reveals several supporters including Joe Orr, Phil McCracken, Makaveli, Hatchetman, cpguy and RFDC.

Steve, you are living breathing proof that it's possible to find someone who says something completely stupid and unfounded in fact and knowledge. That doesn't change the fact that pretty much the entire planet thought that signing Jackson was silly, particularly at the rate of pay to which they signed him.
You seem to think you're the only person who thought at the time of the signing that it was silly to sign him. I'm saying pretty much everyone knew that. You're not some kind of genius to have thought that... because pretty much everyone but a total baseball doofus knew it.
Also, some people here said that you might get good years out of Jackson... not impossible... also not exactly supportive of the amount they're paying someone who is barely a serviceable back of the rotation starter.

So, Darkside the Dipshit goes from saying that nobody was in support of the Jackson signing. No one. to I wasn't the only one against it and PRETTY MUCH everyone knew it was a silly move. So when we are wrong, we backtrack and change the argument if at all possible is that it?

It's ridiculous.
And obviously it's not possible that EVERYONE would be against anything at all... I suppose I should have said metaphorically speaking so the even remarkably stupid would understand what I was saying so that's on me.

If it's so obvious why did you state that NOBODY supported the Jackson signing? NO ONE. It was only after evidence to the contrary was presented that you backtracked and changed the argument. I'm not bragging about having said from the outset that it was a bad move. It's just a fact. It was also just a tiny portion of the post. But you chose to focus on that part for whatever reason and now have made an ass of yourself by making stupid statements and then refusing to admit you were wrong and instead changing the argument. you just look more foolish with each post.

Because unless you're really stupid you would understand metaphorical speech when you see it. But since you didn't... yeah.
Oh and I love that I make you reply to me and move the meters on this thread. I'm getting those page chicks and views and replies!

Fixed:

Oh, I do. It was easy to understand why you changed the argument.....you were made to look stupid and proven wrong.

So you admit to bragging about something that a vast majority of people knew to be true as well?
Then the question is... why are you bragging about it?
