Can they even win tomorrow?

Montgomery game was the weakest one this series.

Not going to win many games only scoring one run.

Mikolas threw a heck of a gem.

5 pitches to 3 Cub hitters in the 9th. 1 to Zobrist, 3 to Rizzo, 1 to Baez. New pitcher in a close game...not a bad idea to take a few pitches; see if the guy can get the ball over the plate consistently. Possibly work a walk or HBP, anything to get a baserunner in a 1 run game. Particularly on a day when the ball wasn't carrying out of the park. No one was gonna be a one-swing hero today without someone getting on base first.

horrible at bats in the 9th. this is a team that doesn't look at all like they want any part of the post season unless it falls in their lap. the brewers want it way more.

This team plays a lot of dumb situational baseball this season.

Even Javi ab he poses like he hit it out. That goes out in July but not today. Just plain stupid.

Ryno didn't know anything about Mikolas. He looked him up in the 7th to see he was 17-4 at the time. Holy shit!

Quote:
If only one tiebreaker game is needed
That game would be played on Monday, Oct. 1 at 4:09 p.m. ET. It could be one of three matchups:

• The Cubs hosting the Brewers at Wrigley Field to determine the NL Central winner, with the loser becoming the home team for the NL Wild Card Game.

• The Dodgers hosting the Rockies at Dodger Stadium to determine the NL West winner.

• The Cardinals hosting the Dodgers at Busch Stadium to determine the second NL Wild Card team.

If two tiebreaker games are needed
The first game would be Monday at 1:05 p.m. ET, with the second game to follow at 4:09 p.m. ET.

The 1:05 p.m. game would be the Cubs hosting the Brewers for the NL Central title. The 4:09 p.m. game would be either the Dodgers hosting the Rockies for the NL West title, or the Cardinals hosting the Dodgers for the second Wild Card slot, depending on how the teams finish the regular season.

If another tiebreaker game becomes necessary beyond that, it would be played Tuesday, with further plans to be announced "as soon as possible," per MLB.

Need the Dodgers to win today so the game tomorrow means nothing to the Cardinals.

It'd be one for the history books if the Cubs played the Brewers in 163, then met back up for the NLDS. What a knock-down-drag-out.

I get the Miko is very good but what is annoying about this game and many this year is that they go through the order once , twice and yet there are zero adjustments. These guys could discuss how he is really working that low curve that finished out of the zone and lay off it until it starts getting called for a strike. They could discuss how he has hung more than a few offspeed pitches and fastballs early in at bats and maybe cheat on one of those and smoke it 400 feet? Its more irritating than anything to see these stubborn at bats. Same thing with the shift.....make an adjustment as opposed to smoking a grounder right to the guy playing short right.

This. Good point.

They can't rely on the deep ball in the playoffs and lately they have shown no concerted effort to manufacture runs via baserunners. Chili has to be gone after this year, they look like they have no plan stepping up to the plate and are just swinging at the first strike they see to hit a long ball. That won't get you far in the playoffs unless maybe if you're the Yankees.

His entire approach is "supposed" to be on shooting the gaps and lowering the launch angle and manufacturing runs. The Sawx had a big power outage with him and we are seeing it as well. They won't call it changing someones swing but when you screw with launch angles you are absolutely changing the swing. Just let them hit. They became elite hitters doing it however the hell they did it. I want a hitting coach to teach the players to scout the pitchers on their own instead of some geek in the computer lab doing it. The pitch recognition on this team is awful. Just sit there and watch film of balls spinning until you get proficient at it again. The amount of offspeed shit they swing at out of the zone and the amount of mid to low 90's fastballs down the pipe they miss tell me they are not as sharp as they should be in regards to pitch recognition.

I'm sure these damn folders of advanced scouting reports tell them that to a left handed batter with runners in scoring position so and so pitcher has a 65 percent tendency of throwing a certain pitch and a 71 percent chance of it being in a certain spot. If you can read the fucking spin of the ball and you know the pitcher then you should have 100 percent chance of reading the damn pitch and reacting effectively. I would be willing to be that they are relying WAY too much on this computer bullshit and not their personal experience and brain.

Look who their best hitters are: Zobrist and Murphy who are so old school they are not changing, Rizzo who has a very good approach and Baez who pisses on any type of approach and just reacts. Its the younger and more impressionable guys that are shit this year...especially with situational hitting.

You have got to be fucking kidding me. Lets hang him an 84 mph hanging slider and leave it right over the middle and slightly above the belt. This is peak juice Bonds type stuff right now. Its every god damn at bat...either he walks or hits a home run. He has to have 10 in the last 2 weeks.

I heard the weather is shit tomorrow at Wrigley. Means they'll be swinging for the fences and have a hard time scoring.

If they lose the division they'll have some bullshit excuse like well we get a day off Monday now and host a game tuesday.

They're the best team in the NL. You have to recogize that. It's not smoke and mirrors, they're the real thing. They're the favorite to win the pennant especially if they can avoid the wc 1 game.
