True but it seems discussions and coverage is gone amuk. Such a simple game I used to play and love.

Still is simple. OPS is simple, anyway. And defense...you can generally use the eye test.

Maybe offense and defense were never meant to be combined into one stat. I'm all for advanced metrics, but it is difficult to take player A's offense and player B's defense and say which is more impactful.

Let's judge offense against offense and defense against defense.

Alright, ya'll were around for whistler, and long time guy is a more recent example.

The board needs to all agree not to engage them in 'debate.' And they will go away.

This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.

It's still out there. It may be a little harder to find but it's still out there.

On the WAR analysis I have B-R, and Fangraphs on my side. You have something called a "Boilermaker Rick" a "Frank Costanza", and a "Hatchetman" on your side.

I'm ok with how the sides have been drawn up.

Uhhh, along with about a half dozen things you missed or misunderstood in this thread, you missed the part where I'm a Cubs fan.

An Astros fan base with a 2005 title would be insufferable.

There is a faction of the Cubs fan base that is insufferable with zero World Series titles since the gasoline powered automobile was mass produced. You fit right in there very nicely.

Just because the Cubs have Bryant doing some work in the outfield, doesn't mean he's now destined to play LF rather than 1B. I think it's more likely he stays at 3B. But having a back-up plan isn't a bad idea. Knowing how well he might play another position, should he struggle at 3B, is smart. Good idea Joe Madden and the Chicago Cubs!

Isn't that what the minor leagues are for? From what I can tell, he didn't play a single inning anywhere other than 3B. Shouldn't Epstoyer have asked the AAA manager to give him a little work in the outfield or 1B while they kept him down there?

actually i have a major bone to pick with supposed professional articles published that have grammatical and/or spelling errors, and I see it an awful lot on internet articles--which is still no excuse. If you're a paid professional writer, you don't get the excuse of "well it's the internet". it's your job, and it should be taken as seriously as writing for a paper. it doesn't compare to the ramblings of a message board post. they're completely different mediums.

As papers have cut back on editorial staff you can see mistakes everyday there as well.

That has not happened with him at any level yet. While he will be taking the biggest leap of all now, I don't expect him to be struggling a great deal. I expect he will do very well.

Bryant struck out 162 times in 138 games last year (27%). He's going to strike out. A lot.

He is going to strike out alot at first...need to get that phase in ASAP. Those bombs are worth as much as one in the basket,,,,,assuming the basket is up, which at this rate, not looking good.

They should go old school with the outfield and just put a rope along the line where the outfield ends and let fans line up behind it for $1 each. True Turn Back The Clock Day

He's responding to a Cub fan who said Bryant will strike out a lot

Score hosts this weekend told me that despite how great Bryant is, Schwarber is even better.
