You are a good baseball poster.

Don't turn into this guy.

We've gone over Matt "Josh" Davidson's futility in AAA thus far this season. Is Baez off limits? I would think there might be some concern. I didn't realize this thread was about leading cheers for Cub prospects rather than talking about them realistically.

Body of work... No real concern yet. He is pressing.

My concern for Baez would be the same as my concern for Davidson. Obviously, both guys have prolific power. But their contact rate is so low that I'm not sure what they will do in the big leagues. You have to hit the ball for it to leave the park. And I certainly don't think either guy is going to strike out less in the majors.

All part of the natural course of development. High end prospects don't always have an innate ability to shorten up to make contact...don't always have the best pitch recognition. But if the raw talent is there, you give them the chance to develop. This is the first time he has struggled, and I think it is mental. He dominated AA, which is close in talent to AAA per many scouts. He also did well in ST.

I simply think he sees the openings on the major league club and is pressing.

I can't speak very well to Davidson.

Probably not. He pretty much demolished those levels last year.

He's gotta figure it out. The reason you dont see a lot of discussion is because this is a pattern with Baez. He gets moved up, struggles, adjusts then dominates.

Which has been talked about on here many times.

Sad to see JORR turn into this.

Come back to us.

If you hit 37 homeruns, 150 strikeouts is fine.

Id say wait on Baez or look at his history. Ill bet he starts killing it in AAA very soon.

Or maybe he wont. He went o for 4 last night, but scored the winning run on a heads up play where no no one was covering home.

baez should continue at AAA this season and hopefully he warms up and starts to show that he is figuring things out at that level. bryant, like baez, has achieved all he really can in tennessee. now you move him up and see where he stands against stiffer competition.

of all the cubs prospects, bryant appears to me to be the one cubs fans should be most excited about. i just think you need to get him up to AAA soon to see if he is going to be ready for a 2014 call-up or at very least be primed to make the cubs roster in 2015.

I thought Bryant would need more time in AA but he probably needs to be in Iowa come the end of the first half of the minor league season (which I think is right around the draft in 3/4 weeks. He is mashing, he doesn't have much for protection in the batting order surrounding him and he is being pitched around if at all possible. Time for him to start dealing with some salty AAAA vets who are going to test him mentally at the plate. They better figure out a damn position for him though as he does not need to learn one at the big league level.

Last year, Baez sucked up the joint in Daytona until June when he went on the tear that carried through his time in AA. Hopefully, this year will be similar and he can be ready by September for a taste.

Just kind of an FYI tidbit, not really sure where to post it;

Quote:
The Marlins signed veteran reliever Carlos Marmol to a one-year, $1.25 million free agent contract this offseason with the hope that he might provide good value in a setup role. That experiment is already over.

According to beat writer Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, Marmol was designated for assignment on Sunday morning — meaning he is no longer a member of the Marlins’ 40-man roster and will either be traded, released, or outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans within the next 10 days. A trade is unlikely.

Marmol allowed four earned runs in Saturday night’s 9-3 loss to the Padres, pushing his season ERA to 8.10. He walked 10 batters and yielded 16 hits in 13 1/3 total innings for Miami.

Davidson is obviously despondent over their being no room for him on the MLB roster with Gillaspie mashing.

White Sox infield seems pretty strong at the moment.

Cubs should send down a personal trainer and nutritionist for him.

bryant with his 12th tonight but more notable is the 1B playing for Mobile, Jon Griffin, went 5-6 with 4 homers against the smokies tonight. no matter what the level is, that is pretty impressive.

Bryant 3 go 3. Now leads league in every statistical offensive category.

Baez with a huge game. BA above .200 now.

Underwood dominating A ball.

No he doesn't. Not even all 3 triple crown categories.

But many of them.

Ok, not EVERY category, but pretty much all the ones that count.

Leads the league in:

Runs
Hits
HR
RBI
TB
OBP
SLG
OPS

He is second in BA to a guy who has played 15 less games. Doesn't count in my book.

Your book isn't as important as the official book...and the official book lists the specifics on how many plate appearances are required per games played by the team.

Between his historical slow starts at a level and his hot latin blood, the warm weather could be the start of Baez domination. I'm ready to go full meatball for him if so.

Adidas has to be glad that Bryant will make up some of that disaster of a contract that Chicago's best cheerleader signed.

He needs to be promoted after 200 at bats.....which he is about 8 or 9 games away from getting to. Its not like he is a high school guy who needs the maturity of being in AA all year. There is nothing left to prove for him in AA at this point. I get the impression that they are happy enough with his play at 3rd that he is going to stick there.
