Major League Baseball put Cubs shortstop Addison Russell on administrative leave pursuant to its domestic violence policy the other day. The thought at the time was that the move was made solely because Russell’s ex-wife, Melisa Reidy, had written a blog post reiterating past claims of domestic violence. As Ken Rosenthal reports, however, that’s not all they had:

The post alone would not have been enough for baseball to force Russell off the field under its joint domestic violence policy with the players’ union. The league had additional credible information, according to sources familiar with its investigation.
The league’s investigation includes interviews with Reidy and numerous other witnesses, and with officials gathering additional information since Russell went on leave, sources said.

Reidy’s allegations alone, once assessed by MLB, would likely be enough to warrant Russell a suspension. That there is more out there would seem to make the case against him even stronger. The upshot: I think it’s extraordinarily unlikely that Russell will be back with the Cubs this year

It's all relative Frank. The time line for all of this is about 4 years. Again, none of these people are even 25 yet. A lot of growing up and maturing can happen during that time.

These allegations are all multiple years old.

Look at Kaner, haven't heard much about him being a dipshit for years...yet his name still gets brought up for behavior he has left behind.

If the Cubs let him go, so be it. I don't think they will. They'll at least wait until he's done with his counseling and his suspension is over.

MLB did their own investigation....suspended him. We've seen nothing of what they based thay suspension on. The stuff that's been posted that we CAN see is nonsense.

Enough can be seen on the surface to say Addison Russell isn't very bright. He very well could be a woman-beating douchebag, but we have zero proof. I can also see we have 2 women that have bad taste in men and very likely wanted to get impregnated by an MLB player. That doesn't mean they deserve to b assaulted. If you were assaulted, go the police, file your charges and move on with your life. Airing it publicly on social media stinks of fraud.

What we do know is Addison needs a vasectomy and no woman in their right mind should want anything to do with him.

I initially had thought they would trade him over the winter. But now, I am buying Theo's line about being part of the solution and trying to help him and the ex-wife and trying to get him on a positive path for himself and the team. If he falters, I think they will get rid of him. But now, it's about a process designed to address his problems with domestic violence. That said, if they can get Troy Tulowitski and he's healthy, I would be more that okay with them moving Mr. Russell. but I will not be at all surprised if he has a nice season in 2019. With the crap dealt with and focus back on Baseball, he may have a real nice year. But I would definitely have him at 2B, as Baez is the better SS and deserves to have the position full time.
