Either go big or go home. What is the point of wasting 15 million a year on a washed up McCutchen?

Exactly. Just go get him if you want him. Have 20 more concerts and remember in just 1 short year you will be counting all that TV deal money. You are also going to be able to market the shit out of Harper and rake in money on his likeness.

8-235 is my prediction for Harper to Cubs.

Payroll limitations?!

Honestly, I'd rather have a dominant pitching staff front to back than handicapping yourself to Harper or Machado.

I am hearing more and more talk of the Cardinals interest in Harper.

If he ends up in a St Louis uniform, especially after all the Chicago Trolling, I am going to be extremely pissed.

I'm waiting for them to get crazy and package Contreras with a shitty contract. What if you offered say the Giants Heyward and Contreras for a few prospects? What about Contreras, Heyward and Almora to Miami for JT Realmutto? I just have this feeling they are going to do something creative and get rid of Contreras. He seems like a shithead and the one position you can not have a shithead is at catcher. The ridiculous walk totals didn't start piling up until he took over as the sole veteran catcher.

The payroll limitations are you are paying 20+ million to a bum named Heyward for 5 more years.

Exactly.

That's why I think you should always try and strengthen pitching as much as possible when you have the "core" group of position players getting close to their prime years.

With Harper, the record $$$ does seem high for a guy that hasn't had a GREAT season since 2015. It's not like he has been putting up Trout like numbers. 3.0, 4.8, 3.5 fWAR respectively in '16,'17 and '18.

If that is the price for Machado though..yeah i would outbid the Phillies, and kick Bryant out to RF.

Isn’t deciding who of Almora/Happ/Russell/Schwarber is being traded and who is sticking around the first order of business. Until you move who you want to move of that foursome, it’s hard to decide what else you want to do with the roster.

I think they know who to keep and get rid of, but can't do it until the top free agents decide where to sign.

There are some things no one can fuck up. Harper or Machado won't forget how to hit and they aren't old.

Trade Jason Heyward for Dexter Fowler.

Heyward: 5yr $106M

Fowler: 3yr/$49.5M

The Cubs would have to include money but this could work for both teams. The Cardinals are getting rid of a player who obviously doesn't want to be there and getting a younger player in return who had a pretty good season with them. It would also allow them to move Harrison Bader to CF.

Moving Heyward would free up RF for (?????) and they could actually use a motivated Fowler in CF and hitting leadoff. It would also make it much easier to trade Schwarber, Happ and/or Almora.

It would be weird to see two division rivals make a trade to help each other but that's exactly what this trade could do.

I don't think Fowler is a CF anymore. He has trouble hitting fastballs now, tends to be a problem.
Might have to add a prospect for the Cardinals to eat that salary.

Good morning! After talking with a handful of MLB sources this weekend, I am starting to believe more than ever the Cubs will not be a factor for Bryce Harper or Manny Machado. The only way that changes is if Theo and Jed and Co. are able to move serious money off the books.

BUT THE SPEECH !!!!!

And don't forget the 33 million Darvish/Chatwood payments equaling nothing in return.

They could have started by declining Hamels option. Who do they package with Heyward to dump him?
