Cubs really don't need a catcher at the moment. I'm not saying their catchers are world beaters, but they have 3 of them so they don't really need at 4th.

Sure when the bar is a first ballot Hall of Famer they fall short, but both were solid enough Japanese players.

Buster Olney says Cubs are seriously in on Yunel Escobar who was recently traded to the Marlins.

He'd definitely be wearing eye black through some of the area around Wrigley.

Supposedly for 3B. I hadn't heard this until now, but apparently Escobar is a clubhouse cancer with big time issues.

Yes. My eye black reference was from an incident where he wore a burrito slur on his face. Toronto insisted he be part of the deal with the Marlins.

Ah. He'll love playing in Boystown, then.

See boy...there are thousands of good ball players. How I judge players, after they are done playing would I have missed seeing them play? Mays,Mantle,Ryan,Thomas,Brooks and Frank Robinson, Clemente..and on and on yes. If I never saw these two play I would have missed naught! 8)

Thursday at 5.

And Tadahito Iguchi was the starting 2B for the World Series champion White Sox.

In a normal year, maybe.

But this is Curious Hair's 72-10 season.

Bruce also said Mark DeRosa was going to be the next Cubs broadcaster.

You may yet be spared.

I don't believe it. I'm sure they talked to the agent. Just like they met with Boras. It's the Winter Meetings, and everyone needs all the leverage they can get. The simple suggestion of a no-trade for Dempster makes me feel confident I'm right here.

Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick
Nate Schierholtz has agreed on 1 year deal with Cubs, source says

By Tim Dierkes [December 5 at 8:29pm CST]
The Cubs agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Nate Schierholtz, tweets ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Schierholtz, 29 in February, was non-tendered by the Phillies last week. He's represented by Lapa/Leventhal.

Schierholtz hit .257/.321/.407 in 269 plate appearances for the Giants and Phillies this year, playing mostly right field. He could assume that position for the Cubs, as they could David DeJesus in center field. Schierholtz has less than five years of Major League service time, so the Cubs will have the opportunity to retain him for 2014 as an arbitration eligible player if he has a solid campaign. He's generally regarded as a strong defender, and the Cubs are in a position to give him 500 big league plate appearances for the first time in his career. He was popular at the Winter Meetings, generating interest from the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox, Orioles, and Mets, according to Crasnick.

Not to much to get excited about here. The talk is DeJesus to CF and this guy in RF. Not to impressive at all but a stop gap measure obviously. Plus a depth signing in case they move Soriano or another guy they can spin off!

If you can believe this (I do), schierholtz turned down a 2-yr deal in $5M range.

He figures the Cubs will let him get alot of AB's so he can increase his value and make him a tradeable asset at the deadline and then cash in next year.

Let's hope he doesn't suck. This is encouraging:

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation
Schierholtz was *excellent* against righties last year: .287/.360/.466.
