Easy play to third that the KC made a poor throw. Inning should have been over.

That was awesome.

The whole dugout was laughing about the first to home.

I'd have to go through the league's carefully, but I think that Caratini could start for 15-16 teams.

Well he has 512 career AB and has hit .254.

With more consistent AB's in a season and growing career experience, he is just as likely to hit a little better as he is hit a little worse.

OK

That line of reasoning gets otherwise smart baseball people to think Daniel Palka would be a star

Looked like his face first slide might leave him short of the plate.

We're all allowed one Daniel Palka or Brett Jackson.

In that worst case scenario, he'd be a .630 OPS catcher with plus defense. That still makes him the 3 day out of 5 starter for at least a dozen teams, and a 2 out of 5 guy for a few more AL teams.

To be fair to the good Mr Dolphin, the Cubs analytic team has been really good at finding matchups for their bench guys (except Almora, who they have buried). Kipnis has only started 4 games, but they were all good matchups for him and he has hit well.

So yeah, with 350 PA a year, I could see him being a Rod Barajas type of #7 hitter, Barajas was a career .235 hitter but nearly a .700 OPS and averaged about 90 games and 320 PA a year for 12 years (plus two September call-ups as a kid)

My guy, Gary Bennett, out of Waukegan, bounced around the majors for 13 seasons with half decent stats and an ability to handle pitchers.

I'd put Caratini slightly above Gary's level.

I see your line of thinking. I usually agree but with him he looks like he might be a little better than a backup. I could see him being a decent, not great hitter over the long haul.

Wasn’t he a .300 hitter in the minors ?

Not sure, but if he was someone who could be a very good hitter at the mlb level im assuming theyd have found more ways to work him in at 1b besides Rizzo injuries.
