I really thought the Cubs would consider bringing Dempster back next season, after trading him this year. They don't have pitchers ready for the majors yet in AA or AAA. They weren't going to bring him back, Steve. Epstein has pretty much said he's cutting more payroll. Cub fans can enjoy a small market team until Theo manages to grow a big market team.

You make it sound like a bad thing.

Well, I think it's a slap in the face to the fans they expect to buy their ever-rising season tickets that they spend half of what they should under the guise of some genius Theo "plan".

No one is forcing anyone to buy tickets.

I'm and surprised that Porky on the Score has been pounding Dempster. If he told the Cubs he would approve a trade to the Braves and didn't, he deserves all of this and more. To bad the game isn't in Chicago today, I would boo the shit out of his ass. Cubs are losing value each day, so the dumb fuck from Canada can fuck off.

And what happens if they don't? It's easy for you to change the channel but someone has to buy the tickets or youve got no team.

If they don't then that means Theo and Company have failed and the organization starts all over again. The Cubs raised prices based on the hope of Theo and people more or less have paid.

They should not trade Dempster anymore. Hold on to him and take the 1st round pick when he leaves next year.

Its not that simple though is it? Don't they have to invoke the team option for 12 or 14 mil or whatever it is and then he must decline that option for a pick to be rewarded for him signing elsewhere? He may very well agree to that scenario.

yes they have to give him a qualifying offer, that he could accept

Phil the rule change is only that if you trade for a guy midseason, you dont get compensation when he leaves. Compensation only if he's on the team all year

Dempster will not accept a one year qualifying offer from the Cubs. He wants one last pay day. At this point, it would be best to keep him, make him the shitty offer, have him walk and take the pick.

That makes sense thanks. I have been too busy studying the NBA cap to try to find a way for the Bulls to keep Omer that I haven't spent much time with the new baseball rules

Dempster's arm is going to fall off today and the fans are going to storm the field. When the fans find out that Garza's arm has already fallen off they're going to storm Theo's mansion.

The qualifying offer will be a 1yr deal between $12-13M. I don't know why he wouldn't accept that considering how much he loves playing for the Cubs.

Unless he only wants to pitch one more season (for a last place team), no way he takes that. He risks getting injured or just going back to his usual sucking and not getting shit after next season. He needs/wants to capitalize on his season this year for one more multi year deal.

No one cares that Randy Wells arm has officially fallen off and he had season ending elbow surgery either today or yesterday.

They need to make sure life is miserable for him then so he doesn't even consider signing it.

I would hope a professional athlete doesn't think that way. He's coming off a $52M deal so he should be financially set for life. He's proven that where he plays is a big factor in his decision making. I think he would jump at that qualifying offer.

They will send that crazy stalker back over to Theo's crib

I think he might just prefer NY or LA over staying

Would an extra draft pick even help anymore. With the new rules for signing picks, wouldnt extra picks just fuck things up even worse??

I thought you only had a certain amount of money for all the rounds. If you get two good 1st rounders you could spend the whole budget right there.

If the Cubs are trying to trade Ryan Dempster before the MLB Trade Deadline, why did he start today's game at Pittsburgh? I don't get it... :?

Its a certain amount for the top ten picks.

Signing a second first rder wont ruin anything. Even if you cant sign the 9th and 10th rders. Make that trade every day

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that given Dempster being a bitch and Garza being injured, that the Cubs do not make one trade between now and the deadline.

I think that the Brain Trust will spend too much time and effort on dipshit and dingus which will not allow them to properly engage in talks for other players on the roster. I do believe other guys would have been traded had they had time to work those trades, but not anymore.

It's not the eleventh hour. These guys can walk and chew gum at the same time. If a deal isn't made, it certainly won't be due to a lack of time at this stage in the process.

Tigers interested in Reed Mantle? Perplexing to say the least. I can't imagine getting much of anything but they can have him if they want him. I wonder who would take his roster spot seeing as Jackson is no where near worthy of a call up. Probably Sappelt.
