2005.

?
I was so jealous about the Cubs press counts that I had to fire back.

I was jealous of them winning a World Series

This may be a dumb question, but isn't a lot of the "Cubs minor league is stocked!" stuff because they seemingly have refused to bring up anyone who deserves it until it was almost impossible to keep them down? They've got a guy now who is basically the Barry Bonds of the minor leagues and yet they still don't even know when he is coming up.

No, that's not really it. They aren't being unreasonable with Bryant. He was drafted just a year ago.

The real big thing is they added a top 20 guy (Russell) and Alcantara has crept up to top 20.

But it doesnt mean anything other than they have some nice prospects. They had a great system in 03 too. The Royals had a great system. Etc....

No, that's not accurate... which players are you referring to? Bryant and Alcantara are the only two knocking on the door. Bryant has only played in the minors for a brief time, and the Cube have made it clear they want their prospects to dominate at each level before being called up. Theo has publicly said he doesn't think Bryant will be up this year. I think that may change, but we'll see.

Alcantara will probably be up soon. I would suspect he will replace one of the bats the Cubs deal.

Of the rest of the big prospects, I don't think any of them 'deserve' to be up. I think this is an illustration of how long it feels like Theo has been here, compared to how long he actually has. The prospects they have acquired are still very raw/young.

Well, Castro and Rizzo were both in the majors by the age of Bryant and Alcantara.

I guess we'll see. I'd want both to be in the major leagues this year.

Bryant has destroyed the minors. What the fuck are they waiting for?

I do agree. I'd like to see both of them up this year, especially if Bryant keeps hitting like this.

So why was my question not accurate? You and me both seem to think they should be up this year.

Also remember, Castro is an extreme case. By comparison, Castro and Polanco are close in age and Polanco was just called up.

Probably the way you worded it. You were suggesting they were "refusing" to bring people up. Up until the last month or two, I think that claim would have been patently false. Fast forward to today, I still don't think either are at the stage where they have been in the minors "way too long" or anything. For Alcantara, the other issue is he is switching positions. So they probably want him to play more in CF first.

So...what I said was right.

It would have been wrong two months ago, but I didn't say it two months ago.

There has never been a narrative suggesting they are holding prospects back. Not really even today. I would prefer to see those two guys up, but that doesn't mean I'm right. So no, the system isn't stacked because they are holding guys back. Even if Alcantara and Bryant come up today, the system is still stacked.

New report suggesting the Yankees are interested in Jackson. They don't want a pitcher who will require top prospects, and instead want one where they can absorb the contract. Seems like a good fit to me.

Who is saying the Cubs will have sustained DOMINANCE? We HOPE for sustained SUCCESS as pretty much every fan of every sport team would.

I am excited about the Cubs prospects as pretty much every fan of every sports team would be.

Sure, the plan may fail. But, I like the direction they are going and am excited about the future as pretty much every fan of every sports team would be.

See the pattern? Nothing "Cubbie" about hoping for success and being excited about the future.

Don't you have multiple posts bashing how the Sox are doing rebuilding wrong and it will never work and how the Cubs are doing it right and it will work?

We need a private sub-forum, dedicated to constructive Cubs and White Sox thoughts, where permission is based on a 75% majority vote from all currently active members of the sub-forum.

I really, truly would like to be able to discuss White Sox baseball...as it is a local team a bit easier to follow than national teams, and I love baseball. But I feel as if any discussion on my part would instantly be perceived by many as 'a Cubs fan attacking the White Sox' even if I enter the discussion waving a white flag and voicing my pure intentions.

It is disappointing.

I very much enjoy what Hahn is doing so far. I think Sale, Abreu, and Garcia is a hell of a foundation. I'd love to be able to learn a bit about the White Sox minor leagues...and bond over how bad Scott Downs was.

Bonifacio, Schierholtz, or Valbuena probably. Maybe Lake.

Cool perspective on the deal from Cashman:

http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/07/0 ... n-russell/

Brian Cashman Provides Insight on Just How Much Chicago Cubs Liked Addison Russell
in Chicago Cubs Rumors / Cubs Minor Leagues and Prospects — by Brett — July 8, 2014
addison russell smokiesNew York Yankees GM Brian Cashman gave a very illuminating interview with WFAN yesterday about, among other things, the trade that sent Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the Oakland A’s for top prospect Addison Russell, outfield prospect Billy McKinney, pitcher Dan Straily, and a PTBNL.

The Yankees, being desperate for starting pitching, were involved in talks with the Cubs about Samardzija or Hammel right up until the end (thus, they acquired Brandon McCarthy the very next day).

“I think we were certainly in the arena,” Cashman told WFAN’s Mike Francesa. “The fact that Theo was engaging me as much as he was, I know he likes our players. I know there’s packages that had interested him for one or both combined that could have worked, but he always measured every conversation with me with ‘there’s a headliner player that if I can get, and I think I might be able to do so, it trumps every deal I could do in this game.’”

That headline player, of course, was Russell. You can listen to Cashman’s entire interview at that link, where he adds that he didn’t think the Cubs could possibly do any better than they did.

So, straight from a GM involved in the talks: based on everything the Cubs gathered, in terms of trade information, over the process of dangling Samardzija and Hammel told them that the absolute best they could do was a trade with Russell in the deal. And getting Russell included completely ended the Cubs’ talks with any other team.

That’s how much the Cubs liked Russell, apparently. Does that entirely change the “future shortstop of the Cubs” conversation? No, not entirely. But it certainly does put an interesting and additional gloss on how we perceive the trade. Sure, the Cubs were always just trying to get the best overall value they could get – pitchers, hitters, whatever – but it sounds like when Russell entered the conversation, that is specifically the guy they wanted.

I already like Russell. I like him more now.

Boy, Billy Beane sure is stupid. Looks like he won't be getting his second movie after all.

There's this thing where both teams can win a trade.

Not really. He could win the WS this year or next year and it wont matter how many World Series MVP's Russell wins
