I consider them similar players.

You overestimate the offensive impact of Adam Eaton.

Consider me relieved. I heard on the radio today that the Cubs just stole the Cardinals best player but I just checked and Matt Carpenter was, in fact, still on the St. Louis roster.

And the Cardinals grabbed Jonathan Broxton on a two year deal. Things are coming up roses for the St Louis Cardinals!

And that Gyorko acquisition. Under the radar best move of the offseason.

Yeah, that's a real cute Cubcentric narrative. We can twist ourselves into knots suggesting Lackey was the Cardinals best pitcher too if we want. And that's the problem with guys like Will Leitch. Sure, he's a Cardinals fan, but he's going to say outlandish stuff, because in his world, page views are paramount. And he's smart enough to know, you're gonna make more money appealing to Cub fans than Cardinal fans.

Most of Heyward's "value" is on the defensive side where everyone agrees the metrics leave a lot to be desired. I don't see how anyone could say he was better than Randal Grichuk when Grichuk beat him in OPS by about 80 points and hit more homers in half as many at-bats. or do homers only count when Fat Schwarber is hitting them on top of ugly ass electronic scoreboards?

This fits in nicely with the other Cubcentric narrative like the crazy idea that all these players will actually take less money to play for Joe Fucking Maddon. If that's the case, Heyward better get that opt-out ready because I'll bet a bunch Maddon isn't there in eight years.

Your posts aren't egregiously stupid. I wish that I could say the same for Good Dolphin.

Heyward would have been the consensus choice as the Cardinals most valuable position player, but Carpenter does come close. I'm actually kind of surprised by his WAR numbers.

It's a shit load of cash AVV wise but if he performs, he opts out after 3.

What they get for their money: OBP, defense, good base running, a solid team guy, only 26 and likely to improve, plus he produced in the post season which is huge.

That is the price of poker. Will be interesting to see what they do with Soler.

In the midst of a bit of a whirlwind week, we would be well served to take a moment to give due consideration to the Cubs for their top-notch farm system teams, particularly the Tennessee Smokies, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Iowa Cubs, and, of course, the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals have been slapping the Cubs around since WW2, might want to take it easy there pal.
