Why can't pussies like you ever take a joke? Acting like my friends and I get drunk at night and harass asians on the street because I made a joke about how they talk. Do you get offended when they do it on South Park or the last scene in A Christmas Story? Shut the fuck up and grow a pair you humorless Caller Bob.

A lot of ignorance on display in this thread. I apologize, Apologist. Even if you weren't Asian this wouldn't be cool. The fact that you are and MANY don't care to be respectful makes it worse.

Agreed but people get mad when I say it.

Lester was awful his first season with the Cubs. Hopefully, Darvish will turn it around faster than he did. He’s been awful, so far.

WTF?

Lester threw 205 innings, whiffed 207 dudes, and pitched to a 3.34 ERA in his first season as a Cub.

If that is awful, we need more awful pitchers.

Listen mate, I'd be thinking it's time for an MRI if you really believe that.

Left the American League, saw his ERA go up a run, and had a losing record. MANY were worried he would never live up to his contract. Arrieta dominating like no other pitcher probably made him look worse, but he was not pitching well when the Cubs needed it. His ERA was higher than Darvish at this point during his first season with the Cubs.

It doesn’t matter what Lester did the prior year, it doesn’t matter what Jake was doing in that same year, just like it doesn’t matter what Old Hoss Radbourne did 100+ years ago, what matters is Lester had an ERA that was 15% above league average, and his FIP was almost 1/2 a run lower than his actual ERA. He threw 200 innings and finished in the top 10in whiffs. 2.7 WAR if you want it.

If you want to say he underperformed expectations, that is quite possible, but to state that Lester was “awful” in his first year as a Cub shows a lack of understanding of the definition of the word awful, or a lack of acceptance of the facts.

Fine. He wasn’t awful like the Sox pitchers this year, but he was awful compared to his contract and the rest of his career to that point He was not the Cubs #1 pitcher and he put up basically the same numbers as Jason Hammel. So, he was Jason Hammel good his first year with the Cubs.

I think the Rockies just hit another home run off of him.

Hoping Theo give him a no trade clause. Lol

I expected Darvish to win around 15 games, with an ERA around 3.60 if he signed with the Cubs. Many might think that would be good. But I didn't want him because of what he did in the World Series......worse than awful. I wanted Arietta, because he was usually at his best when it mattered the most. But Theo signed Darvish, so here we are. I still think he will be at or slightly over .500 when the season concludes and have a bunch of great games. But I don't trust him to take the ball and deliver when it matters most, in the playoffs. As for the 15 wins and 3.60 ERA....that looks pretty unlikely. In response to the previous post about Lester in his first season, he did get off to a poor start to the season and his record was not what was expected of him, but he wasn't this bad.

Would you like to roll through his last decade or so of free agent acquisitions?

He addressed not wanting to dip into free agency on day 1 after he walked across lake Michigan.

I know you are kidding but I am saying the exact opposite. He gives out big contracts to unworthy players.

Darvish was the right decision. There wasn't another #2 or better pitcher available.

He's done much better when he was very limited with resources. That is when he got guys like Arrieta and Hendricks. Lester has worked out pretty well, but Heyward is a disaster and Darvish is not making him look good so far. I like Chatwood though, even if the early returns are mixed. He does great identifying and developing position players.

Darvish was not the right decision, Jake was.

It wasn't unreasonable to expect Darvish to pitch like a #2. I believe that he eventually will. He's still making the adjustment to the city and his teammates.

Yes, but it's all about identifying the right player and projecting how they will do in the future if you acquire them. Hell, in free agency it's easier, as you don't have to try to figure out who is available or not and who might want what you are offering up or not. It's just who do we want amongst the group and what will it cost? He loved the big strikeout totals and the 7 pitches of Darvish, but failed to look at who delivers best in the most important games. Losing 3 early season games (Darvish) and looking bad in 4 of 6 starts is not a crisis. But if he pitches like this in the playoffs (and I fear he very well may) it will be a real problem.

Good save. We all believe you knew they were trades now.
