No thanks.

Chatwood is quite literally un-pitchable at this point.

At least Hamels is a viable starter when he stands on a MLB pitching mound.

His HR rate is crazy, if that falls anywhere to career norms, he’s good by me to make 14 starts from here on out.

Isn't Hammels a clubhouse loony toon? Or am I mistaking him for some other (ex) Phillies pitcher?

I know we did this with Chatwood and it didn't work out, but this season Hamels has an ERA under 3, in the AL, away from the Ballpark at Arlington. He is no worse than Chatwood, and has the ability to maybe provide results similar to a #3.

Hamels is brutal. Trying another band aid to cover for the shit signings of Yu and Chatwood.

Hamels is a #4 at this point in his career. But reading MLB Trade Rumors, it sounds like they're not giving up a heck of a lot for him - some pitcher from Myrtle Beach and a couple of other secondary prospects. As long as none of the prospects are better than Mark Zagunis or Rob PolishGuy, I'm fine with this deal because it means we're not going to see Luke Farrell start another game for the Cubs this season.

I saw something on twitter earlier today about the Cubs being involved with Orioles on Brad Bach. I went back to look for it later and cannot find anything. Anyone else see that?

I saw it yesterday or the day before. When the Yankees took over the lead for Britton it was mentioned that the Cubs may have already moved on and started looking at Bach.

#5 is pretty cool.

Quote:
5. Last December, the Hamels donated their $9.4 million mansion and 100 acres of land in southwest Missouri to Camp Barnabas, a charity that provides camps for children with special needs and chronic illnesses and their siblings. The 32,000-square foot home is near Table Rock Lake near Reeds Springs. Heidi Hamels grew up in Buffalo, Missouri. “Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it,” Cole Hamels said at the time. “Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.”

Makes sense, he's out of options and he's probably still not quite 100%, he can take his time in the Rangers bullpen in August and stretch out to get a couple of starts in September. Then Texas can decide whether to keep him in arbitration or non-tender him.

Meanwhile, either Chatwood moves to the long man in the bullpen, or Montgomery moves into short relief if Morrow isn't coming back soon.

Compared to what the Yankees gave up for Happ, the Cubs got Hamels for a very good deal.

Didn’t know Butler was gone.

Good luck to him. Hope he has a good stint as a starter in Texas.

yeah making judgements about what the Cubs do at the deadline right now is stupid.

The only gamechanger that has been traded is Machado and the Cubs were never really in on that.
And less than 24 hours after schmitty made his post, a trade for a SP is made. What a wiener.

Have they given any indications on whether Chatwood or Montgomery would be going to the bullpen?

Montgomery is going to be in the bullpen for the playoffs, but he has earned a starting rotation job.

They didn't give up much to get him, it's probably worth a shot if he is able to pitch better outside of Arlington.

They won't outright say it but Monty is going to piggy back Chatwood. Let dipshit start and try to go 3-4 clean innings and then have Monty ready for 4 or so innings. That would have him available a few times a week, save his arm and maximize the shitty situation with Chatwood

Chatwood is not pitching in the pen with his command. Monty just has to understand that he is the better pitcher and more effective and valuable in that long relief role right now.

I wouldnt be surprised if they come out and actually announce it as a dual start. Joe can puff his chest and pretend to be a genius while saying that 'The Girl With a Pearl Earring' by Vermeer represents that each starter in a dual start is like an oyster turning a grit of rosin dust into a pitching pearl.

Sounds like a trade but don't know yet. If they've made a new one, it's not with the Texas Rangers, according to a source. https://twitter.com/toddpolakoff/status ... 9917396992

Trent Giambrone, the #Cubs prospect who was pulled from his game today and reportedly seen hugging teammates in the dugout, is not the PTBNL in the Cole Hamels trade. And the #Cubs have no second deal in the works with the #Rangers. Just in case anyone was wondering ...

Pretty sure I read that Giambrone was pulled due to an injury.

Nats get right-handed pitcher Jhon Romero from the Cubs for Kintzler. Rendon active, by the way.

Kintzler isn't terrible. Romero is the Myrtle Beach closer, which means he probably projects to being an Iowa Shuttle guy for a rebuilding post-2021 Cubs team. Not a massive loss.
