That uniform needs the collar cut off.

He's kinda got a Huey Lewis thing going on there.

The Halladay thing is true. You wonder how that could've worked out for the Sox had they done it.

I dont doubt the Sox wanted Halladay, but I dont believe the Jays offered him straight up for Beckham

The Jays ended up taking Kyle Gibson (top 25 prospect) Michael Taylor (top 25 prospect) and Travis D'Anaurd (top 100 prospect).

Beckham was a top 10 prospect coming off a VERY strong rookie season, but still think the value on the Phillies package outweighed Beckham straight up. Although the Sox wouldn't have had to add much to a deal starting with Beckham.

Edit, looks like Beckham wasn't quite a top 10 prospect, but more like top 20.

I don’t think there is any shame in missing on Beckham.

Top 10 pick, top 20 prospect, outstanding production for a 22 year old in the majors (nearly 1-1 B.B./k ratio), he had it all going for him.

And then pitchers adjusted, and he sucked.

Beckham slashing .308 / .405 / .470 down in AAA Tacoma. Probably expecting to rejoin the Mariners roster in September.

My Gordon Beckham moment was attending a sox/Yankees game where I ended up sitting next to Johnny DoingThings, former B&B intern. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and Bacon went 3 for 3 off of him: the first hit was a sure double down the RF line with a runner on first where Bacon intentionally lollygagged down the line / around first to end up with a single that induced a throw into 2nd to ensure the run scored, the second hit was a double down the LF line, and the third was a double to the right-center gap. I was so impressed I went out of my way to buy a Beckham jersey-shirt on the way out.

Also Johnny DoingThings was playfully coy about the chances of OB & Doug returning to the score after the ChicagoSportsWebio debacle. He had a grin on his face like "you never know..." when I was talking about how potentially losing OB & Doug Bears Postgames on the Score would be the biggest fallout from the CSW debacle. It turns out he must have knew something cuz OB and Doug were back for the start of that next Bears season.

makes sense, Detroit's been fielding a 4A roster since Dombrowski absconded to Boston and took most of the TIgers good players with him. A decade-plus of Dombrowski-ball/swapping cheap, under-team-control prospects for pricey vets left the Tigers minor league system in shambles.
