Phil Rogers was on with M&H saying how Baez should go to management and give the ok for Russell to take his SS position, and he'll go to 2nd. Rogers points out the Cubs haven't been too good without Russell. He says Russell is ready, and Cubs don't want him returning when they're home. Me, I don't move Baez when he's getting better and better. Russell has been on a 3 year decline. He's a 242 ba, 704 ops guy with a iffy arm, and dubious off field history.

Why would you not want Russell playing if the statistics prove theyre a better team with him in the lineup?

I'm not sure how much Russell's agent paid Phil to say that.

Russell had a decent hitting surge at one point, but the league figured him out as they did Happ and to some extent Schwarber. They have enough guys to play against lefties. Personally, even ignoring the off field troubles, I thought he was a serious non-tender candidate at $4M.

He should be on the Iowa Shuffle with Zagunis, Happ, Edwards, Rosario, and Ryan for that 25th roster spot. If his suspension ended today, I would have brought him up to play SS and give Baez a night off, and then sent him back down again.

ETA: I suspect we will see Zobrist go on the DL in May for the 10-day minimum with some kind of back strain, both to give him a rest as well as to try and showcase one of Zagunis, Happ, or Russell for a trade.

Because it was better mostly when compared to Happ and Almora. I'd rather have either Descalso or Bote vs. righties right now, until Russell can prove he deserves more than 1/3 of the starts at 2B against RHP.

Every player has their best career year. Is it possible Russell, Happ, Bryant, Schwarber, Heyward, Contrares, Hendricks, Edwards all have had theirs early in their careers? Not saying they won't have good productive years. Rizzo, Baez, Bote still on the horizon?

I heard this as well and it was an epicly bad take.

Addison Russell declined a ton and has zero trade value at this point. His decline could be caused by a number of things, but it's safe to say there's no guarantee he would have made the 2018 Cubs any better. I doubt he would have.

Russell is in AAA cause the team as it stands is playing well just fine without him. Kris Bryant and Rizzo would be a much different discussion. The Cubs owe Addison Russell nothing.

I don't know what the statistics say but it seems whenever the Cubs lay a bunt hit, good things happen. The 2016 NLCS might have turned in the Cubs favor on Zobrist's bunt hit. Schwarber's bunt helped lead to 5 runs today.

M's really dragged their feet getting the bullpen up and ready. Gonzales should have been out of the game as soon he walked home his second baserunner.

Dunno, they just scrap their way to wins.. their pitching sucks and outside of Goldschmidt and Ozuna their lineup sucks.

They will fall apart. Wait till one of their players pulls another pitmike behind the wheel.

Since the Cubs initial road trip, they have the 2nd best record in Baseball. Lots of hitting, some good pitching against a good hitting club in Seattle and some nice defensive plays. Rizzo and Bryant seem to have gotten things going now, so they seem poised for the home stand coming up. Now, I hope the Cardinals/Nationals game tomorrow goes 24 innings and their bullpen gets wrecked for the weekend.

I dont get why this is such a huge dilemma.

Baez is the SS pure and simple.

Russell can be on the team as a backup now. Just platoon at 2B.

Why is it considered some huge problem if Russell is not playing regularly?
