Lots to like in the game. Almora with another couple hits, including another HR and another good catch. Schwarber with a couple walks as well as the oppo HR on the 13th pitch of the at bat and of course Bryant with a 3 HR, 5 RBI night. Oh, and Hamels battling through and getting a win when he wasn't at his best.

Things not to like included (for me) Russell not being able to get a bunt down when called upon to sacrifice and instead making a half hearted effort at bunting, before flying out to CF and NOT advancing the runner. Also Carl Edwards balking in a run and then throwing a wild pitch that normally would have scored yet another run. He was awful again and should not be used in high leverage situations. Lastly, Heyward's struggles with the bat continue, though he almost had a grand slam in that last at bat. Doesn't seem like the same guy who was looking so fluid early in the season and barreling up the ball regularly.

When's the last time a Cub had a homer in three straight innings? Ever?

Yes, he was the only other one to do it. I was thinking about others to just hit 3 homers in a game......I know Tuffy Rhodes did it on opening day one year against Doc Gooden, Dave Kingman did it against the Phillies (and probably another time or two) as well as Sosa, who did it SIX times!

It’s gotta also be rare for a team to get a quality start from its starter and give up 14 runs.

Why in the world is there even a discussion going on? It's a balk. Full stop.

Yeah if Edwards was not allowed to do that then this guy shouldn't be

Classic Joe a guy gets red hot and Joe sits him because of the data. Heyward is hitting . 065/.085 last 7/15 games and Joe continues to start him.

I don't understand his hard on for batting Schwarber leadoff. He walks but he also stands there and takes strike 3 looking probably more than anyone in the league. Its as if he goes out of his way to piss on the leadoff spot and that whole "you go, we go" thing of years past. I think I would rather see Rizzo lead off with the pitcher batting 8th. I give zero fucks what the stats say, i am not giving my worst hitters (heyward and schwarber) the guaranteed most at bats in every game. If he clears waivers I would grab Keon Broxton and see if I could tweak some things in Iowa and then give him a shot. He can run, play great defense and has very good hr power......sounds alot like Fowler back in the day though Broxton's D is way better.

You can't bat people lead-off that you don't have. That's all he's got. If Heyward hadn't remembered he stinks, he'd be okay there. Otherwise, there's literally nothing better than Kyle other than Baez/Rizzo/Bryant/cone-TREH-rahs - and I don't need ANY of those three leading off.

I would have Almora leadoff and run with it for a while.

With a .287 OBP? That's a hard pass for me.
