Holy shit I didn't know how bad this was at the start here

As a team, the Cubs have 18 hits. Total.
The Mets have played two games and have 15 hits on the season.
The Nationals have also played two games thus far, and they have 19 hits.
Yermin Mercedes has 13 hits on his own.

Cubs are 3-2, according to my deep research. They will be fine.

The panic for the first week is definitely something crazy this year.

Long season ahead.

The panic is justified as the offensive woes are not new.

You have absolutely 0 reason to think that these guys will "figure it out" based upon the last few years.

I get the math and science behind this, but you would think there could be a happy medium between 'HR, BB, or K' vs "hey lets manufacture a couple of runs when we need to."

Given that this Cubs team has been pretty damn good for the most part over the last few years, and that cooler weather which is not HR friendly certainly is prevalent in April, early May, late September, and October, it would behoove them to string a few hits together now and then.

The “ excuse” for it being one of the three outcomes is that there’s so much velocity in the game now that it’s just not “ easy” to beat the shifts , sacrifice bunt , etc as batters are having a hard enough time just putting the bat on the ball .

They are still using the work deep counts, get into the bullpen model from Boston 2004. Game is much different now and they haven't adapted.

honestly, I don't know that really sums it up. I don't think it's approach anymore. I think they're simply not seeing the ball as a group.

It could improve but every day, it looks an awful lot like last year.

Just for kicks, I went game by game last week with the 2003 Cubs season. It was a good refresher on how much of a marathon a baseball season is. I had recollections that the Cubs blew the doors off the NL after the Lofton/Ramierez trade. It really wasn't quite like that.

Hitting .132 as a team, by far the worst in all MLB. Not a single player over .200. How is that possible?

when it comes to hitting philosophy, at least they are all pulling on the same end of the rope. like quint, they just accelerate the orca as the bearings are burning out.

Heard a few minutes of the game, Pat and Ron kept making a big deal about one of the Cub hitters was a, "contact guy", they must have said that five times during his at bat, everyone knows the problem with this team, but nobody wants to do anything about it because it would require trading off guys like Bryant, Rizzo, Contreras, or Baez.

Cub hitters are all trying to jack everything out of the park, a few high fastballs, or anything breaking over the outside corner and they are either going to strike out or meekly ground out to short.

2nd lowest batting average after six games in MLB history.

First team in history to have 3, 3, 2, and 1 hit games in first six games.

They had a contact guy in DJ, they been trying to replace him since they got screwed on that trade. You gotta trade Rizzo, KB, Baez, Hendricks, Contreras. Don't think Kimbrel is movable and no chance Heyward is movable.

That was the indictment a few years ago. Now, it’s inexplicably holding on to pieces that don’t produce.

I mean, they're not THIS bad. Happ put it right....he's having trouble seeing the ball. Is the approach tentative? Maybe. But eventually some of them are going to hit. Happ makes no sense as a leadoff guy. Cubs never did replace what Fowler brought to the order. Obviously Fowler sucked after that but that's the kind of guy you need at the top to set the tone. Baseball is such a mental game.

Heard a bit of the game on the radio yesterday. Late in the game I believe their was a runner on first and Baez was up. On 2-0 Baez swung at a pitch according to Pat that was "shoulder level". Then Pat goes on to say Baez is a good bad ball hitter. GTFO.

Someone should run a compilation video of Baez's bad swings (yeah I know it could take a few days). Let him watch over and over again. He should be embarrassed at some of his at bats. For all of his baseball feel on the basepaths and on the field, he has no clue what he wants to do up at the plate.

These “core” hitters do appear to be bad though. Not under .200 as a collective bad but incapable of being consistent and winning a playoff series.

Extend Rizz and flip everything else. As soon as Darvish was traded to save payroll the whole point of this season should have been to compile as many prospects as possible.

I dont give a shit whether or not they " like" it but Rizzo should bat leadoff and Bryant second. Everyone else can slot in wherever . Those are your two best " potential" hitters you may as well give them the most at bats and its been shown to be effective in the past. What do you have to lose ? Get 1 hit again ?

I don't understand the extend Rizzo mantra, he is 32 in a couple months. He has a bad back and first base is the easiest position to fill with a 30-100 guy.

How is it crazy? This team has been awful hitting for the last 3 years. I got excited when Sogard actually made solid contact with the ball and drove it to right field to drive in an insurance run. I yelled at the screen, "That's how you do it, fucking Baez and Bryant. Take notes!" Then Bryant strikes out looking and Baez I believe stuck out as well to leave Sogard in scoring position. How pathetic is it to have some cast off from Milwaukee have a better understanding of hitting then the guys who are asking for millions who continue to hit .200? Want Baez, Bryant off this team next year.

I don't want them to sign Rizzo to a big contract. He is done and the Cubs interest in him is purely for marketing and public relations.

He knows exactly what he wants to do at the plate. He wants to hit it 500ft every time. A confused hitter would have to have things to be confused about. Do I pull it here or shorten my swing or try to drive it to right field and move the runner over. Baez just loads up and swings wildly with little thought to what he "should" do.

Chicks love the long ball!

I’m pro extension but against an over pay.

He seems to be seeking an overpay so I get it if the Cubs pass.

But I think there is value to keeping a guy like him around with the way he approaches at bats. Especially for the unpcoming rebuild.
