It's hard to win when you get 0 runs.

It's a battle of which closer sucks more.

I think it's theirs.

Their closer sucks more.

Not a bad start - the fans had the chant going already.

And the go ahead win comes in. I am not going to panic, all I am going to say is this shit is predictable, every fricken year, same give away games. 1st and 3rd for braun now, I suspect a home run, because Howry has like 85 mile a hour fastball today.

Thanks experts for claiming the Cubs had the best bullpen in the NL.

Well Marmol looked good. Now Soto cant catch a out, so Braun will for sure get a hit now.

Ok, they squeezed this nuts out of that one and I think David Riske is coming in, so it should a 1-2-3 inning.

1-2-3 inning, again this is the types of games that are going to just sink this team, year in and year out, same crap to start it off, baserunning errors, bad bullpen and just another 100 little things to piss me off. MLB contending teams dont do this shit. It cant be asking much to just come off in the first game of the year and look like you want to play.

Wood did exactly what I thought he would do, suck. Dlee continues to take fastballs right down the middle and aram isnt going to produce until it gets warm. Maybe if they didnt spend 1/2 the fricken game kissing ernie banks ass with celebrations of some stupid ass statue, they could have a bit more of a game state of mind. I dont want to forget Feliz Pie who is plain bad, Theriot looks like his bat speed is much slower then last year. Howry I can live with, because he is slow starter, I saw that with the iNdiains and White Soxs, so I wont get to worked up over that, but Lou should have just bought him in the 9th instead of Wood, because I just feel Kerry is going to go downhill from here, Marmol will be the closer by May 1st.

I just wish they would fold up the flags on the pole, forget the cubby crap and just go out there and win, instead, its the same dumb mistakes.

God fucking damnit. The Cubs are to scoring what Michael Bolton is to making good music. They just outright refuse to do it. It doesn't matter the year, or what hitters they have on the roster; they could fucking resurrect Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth and put them in the lineup, and they'd find a way to regularly get shut out. Christ, if it weren't for Fukudome, the Cubs not only wouldn't have scored a single run, they wouldn't even have come close.

Also, I just love how their strength -the bullpen- decided to go ahead and start off a second consecutive year in disappointing fashion.

Notch one in the "pissed Matt off" column.

PS: fucking Craig Counsel, by the way. That little fuck can drown in a bin of festering feces, as far as I'm concerned.

I hate counsell, that guy they should trade for just to stop him from ramming it up their ass every year. I can live with a Braun or Fielder launching a homerun, but to lose it like they did AGAIN today, its just pissing me off.

I think the Bullpen will be fine once they send Kerry Wood off to lala land or to whoever will take him, because I have seen this shit to many times, great spring, sucky season, I think Lou will wont be shy about it, plus I just put Wood being on the team on Hendry and his man love for Kerry.

Like I said before, they cant lose games like this, it will just kill them and I was hoping for a better start, something to hope for, instead, today, it looked like a dusty team to me. Least we didnt sign Dotel.

Do you all realize how stupid you all sound after 1 loss?

Did you have a meeting for a contest to see who could post the dumbest reaction to a loss if they did lose?

Right Wood sucked in his first outing so he's going to suck all year. The moron who posted that doesn't even deserve to be named. Actually cheering as those 3 runs score. You cheered harder when those runs scored than when Fukudome hit a homerun.

I wish Wood was like Ben Christenson and started flinging some balls at the heads of the boobirds after 1 game.

Its just irritating how they lost, is all. I haven't given up on the season or anything, but man, these bastards sure lay it on thick, for it being the first game of the season. By the way, this team is unmatched when it comes to going to extra innings; at least this is a rare case where they didn't take it to 12+ after doing so (see? there's some positive for ya).

Where did I say it was a good way to start a season?

It's dumber than dumb to judge an entire season on one game.

I know people are just frustrated but it is getting silly.

People are saying all over the net replace Wood after 1 game. That is so stupid it's not even worth responding too.

Especially since if the situation were reversed you know they wouldn't be saying the opposite.

I tend to judge a team after a month or so but then again look at last year's Cubs and their first month.

I've seen many Cubs teams have great opening days and lousy seasons. And lousy opening days and have great seasons.

Guys do you suppose we'd be less frustrated if Fukudome hadn't hit that homer and gotten us all excited?

It sucked. And it sucks worse because we have to wait til Wednesday to get it out of our system.

If they are going to soak and freeze you they SHOULD WIN!

Relax. No wonder most think of Cubs fans as dumbasses. They faced Ben Sheets today, alot of teams have trouble with him. Thank God I actually know the game of baseball.

You didn't. I was just clarifying that my irritation was with this game.

Right. Which I didn't do.

What's silly about being irritated by the poor performance?

I agree it's stupid, but you evidently found it to be worth responding to. I didn't, so I didn't.

Actually, I don't. Maybe he'd be all "well, Wood is still going to get injured, it's only one game." Is Miss Cleo shacking with you or something?

That's nice. But the fact remains, they've so far played one game, and it was irritating as fuck.

According to hawkeye Fuku is going to hit 1000 for the season. If Wood is going to suck all season based on 1 game Fukudome will hit 1000 for the season.

And Zambrano will have a 0 ERA.

Of course buckeye was cheering when Wood gave up the 3 and booing when Fukudome hit the homerun.

I know. Actually, just watching the lineup I'm pretty optimistic, so long as Theriot can get on base consistently.

Ok great one, tell me that this loss is not the same type of loss we have seen time after time for the last 5 years. Its old, it boring and its unexcusable. I know the game to, been watching it for 38 years and if this is they way they are going to approach their games, its going to be a long season. That is what I am trying to say.

Anyone who goes away from this game thinking it was a good game, they are nuts.

1. Theriot and SOriano go 0-12.

2. Fukudome had a great game, but killed them with being picked off while on second.

3. Wood did nothing to impress me. 1 inning, 3 runs, 1 HBP. That concerns me.

4. Soto not being able to catch a foul by braun.

5. Team still strikes out to much. Theriot, Soriano and Lee both struck out twice today, not good and something that will happen enough during the season to annoy me. I have been saying this for 2 years, Lee has to start swinging at those 1st pitch fastballs they give him.

6. Lou decision to bring in wood in a non save situation, no not a good choice.

7. Felix Pie still cant hit major league pitching, that is painfully apparent.

So after watching that game and those being facts as I stated, how do I walk away not being discouraged? Yes, its the first game, but these are thngs that I am willing to bet on that will repeat themselfs during the season, thats a bad thing. With todays game, you also go away thinking do they need a leadoff hitter, do they need a closer, what happens if Soto doesnt pan out as thought? Those are huge concerns and very legitmate questions.

As far as sheets goes, he is a decent major league pitcher who has never recieved a vote in the cy young voting, so he isnt a stud, he is a matt morris type at best. He doesnt concern me, because come june, he will be hurt, just dont put him up their with the best pitchers in the league, because he is nowhere neat that team picture.

Yes, I still think they will win the division, but these stupid mistakes have to stop. I also feel much better about getting the brewers out of the way quickly this year, because Gagne sucks and with a bullpen of Torres, Linbrink and the other stiffs they have, it will be a long summer for that pitching staff.

I have a feeling as the Cubs season progresses Steph will quickly become one of the most annoying posters here.
