I understand with Howry being ineffective and Hill only pitching 5 innings today, Marmol had to pitch two innings.

I just worry that the Cubs don't wear the guy out. He pitched two innings a couple of days ago and seems like he has had a heavy workload this year.

Hopefully Howry can regain some velocity and become another set up option for Lou.

yeah, he sure is pitching a lot. it would be nice to have howry show he can help out. what is the story with scott eyre? he pitched VERY well last year in the 2nd half, perhaps he can come in and be effective as well.

nice win today, kerry wood looked fantastic, great velocity and movement. smart move getting hill out of there too. i like the move, get him his 5, get him out of there, and maybe he can build on this. i would say hill showed a glimmer of hope today, but frank would likely tell me his ERA still sucks, and he should never have allowed that run in the 2nd. :D

I disagree.

Care to make a wager, HV?

A word of advice to all those who bet on the Cubs...don't take tips from Hawkeye Vince!

(His bacon and water chestnut recipes are a different story, however...)

And this is why I never bet on or against the Bears - my heart gets in the way,

Gambling 101: Don't let your heart get in the way.

And I agree that it was good to get Hill in and out of there while the getting was good... see if the clownshoe can get back on track this season, and hopefully build on some things from here. He's been eerily ineffective in my video game take on the Cubs' season, as well... giving up hits and runs like a cheap prom date.

Glad to see Marquis pitch 6 solid innings.
What's the deal with Lee? Taken out of the game due to blowout? Or...

Ahh, the benefits of being in the NL Central.

Besides from the win, this is the sort of game that's great just because you can get ABs for whoever you want. D-Ward with a meaningless two run shot, but it gets him some chances at the plate which is always a good thing. It seems like the margins of victory are getting bigger and bigger.

Are you referring to the NL Central that sent a team to the World Series in 3 of the last 4 year?
This argument against the NL Central is complete horseshit.

Actually this year the NL Central besides Pittsburgh and Houston does seem pretty good, but usually it seems like they have 1 good team, 1 mediocre team, and 4 shitty teams.

True. The competition is stronger and better there than in the AL Central to date based on team records. Better competition makes for a better team and better product. Good point you made there.

Yep, good thing the season is only 20 games long.

Can't have it both ways smarmy one. If you're going to disparage the NLCentral and insinuate that the Cubs must apologize for their schedule and competition, you can't discount the horrendous start the ALCentral has gotten off to.
Pick a lane.

You're good at putting words in my mouth. I never insinuated they should apologize. I think they play in a weak division. You disagree.

Terribly sorry. I fail to see the difference in your insinuation. Doubtless a failing on my part.

Only in the last couple years has the NL Central been weak and in one of those years the Cardinals won the WS.

Earlier in the decade, the NL Central was one of the stronger divisions. Heck a couple of years the Cubs won 89 games and finished third, 2001 and 2004.

This stuff goes in cycles, from 1995-2000 the white sox had the opportunity to beat up on shit teams like Detroit, KC, and Minnesota.

Reed Johnson sure has been a nice surprise so far. He is a heady ballplayer, knows the game, takes pitches and runs the bases well.
I loved how he knew the ground rules and did not touch the ball in the vines, even though he could see it. May have saved the Cub a big inning.
You can tell Lou loves the guy, too. He had no problem benching Pie for him.

Cedeno has been hitting the ball awfully well lately. Good ABs, long ABs, solid contact even when he's out. You wonder if he's made the transition from AAAA guy to real-life major leaguer. If he has, it's a good thing they never made that Roberts trade.

Wasn't LaRoche rookie of the year in Atlanta a few years ago?

The guy can neither hit nor field. Most definitely a Pirate.

yeah, you have to be impressed with johnson. on a team with no leadoff hitter, he is a good option right now. im sorry to see things going as badly as they are for pie right now, but the way johnson is hitting and fielding, there is no argument for pie right now.

tomorrow will be a good test, john maine is a pretty solid starter, and the mets definitely have a solid lineup to contend with.

i know it is only the pirates, but it is good to see them pound the shit out of them and toss them in the cellar where they belong, with houston. nice way to set a tone for the season. i hear wandy rodriguez is hurt now, so houston is in deep shit now too.

Perhaps as many as the Sox did last night... with better results of course.

You want your answer Frank or did you watch/listen for yourself?
