As a Sox fan I had the game on in the background but didnt start paying attention till they cut it down to 9-6. As a baseball fan it was cool to see. As a sports radio fan, Im glad it came on a Friday so it might be diluted a bit by Monday and hopefully we wont hear a bunch of Team of Destiny crap from Harry then.

A real bonus to win this game, with Ramirez and Theriot out of the whole game and Lee and Soto out of it halfway through. This reminded me of the Cub's/Brewers game late in the 1998 season, where they were behind by 8-9 runs and came back to win it on an Orlando Merced Homer. I was at that game with my son Bret and half of the crowd only stayed to see if Sammy might hit another homer, as he was in the race with McGuire for the home run title. Sosa started the comeback with a homer, but like when Fukadome hit his, there was a lot of work still to be done. This was a game I wish I had been able to attend. Now they get Glendon Rusch tomorrow, with a real chance to get through the series clean. Rusch was 1-2 with a 6.41 ERA with the Padres, before they released him. With Cook looking strong early today and the Rockies with that big 8 run lead, it sure looked like they were going to be trying to bounce back against Rusch. Now they can get Ramirez and Theriot back on a full days rest and Soto and Lee after a short day, coming back to try to extend the winning streak. Good year to be a Cub fan.

Dempster looks like shit today. Lots of walks early, and falling behind on every hitter.

Can't they bring in Scott Eyre?

Right, because whoever Lou would have replaced Soriano with that nite would have been incapable of hitting a blooper down the left field line driving in a runner from second base.

I liked the move in the 9th too. You don't pitch Wuertz in the 9th because he doesn't give you the best chance to get 3 outs without any runs scoring, as Wood or Marmol do. Having Reed Johnson in the outfield gives you a better chance of getting an out if a ball is hit there, than if Soriano is out there. In that situation, with a 2 run lead, the Cub's should not have any more chances for any at bats, so keeping anyone in the game for his bat, is silly. Nice to see that Lou seems to have come around on this. I just hope the reason he took him out, wasn't that Soriano tweeked that leg with his stolen base in the bottom of the 8th.

The Cubs weren't leading in that game going into any defensive inning. Completely different situation.

agreed. my point is that the guy can hit, i would leave him in in any close game and take my chances in the field, but this has all been gone over already in another thread, no need to start it up again.

WTF was that? Nice catch in the first Alfonso. I've never seen a Pro player so bad in the outfield. I'm glad he can hit.

Edmonds making better contact, hopefully he still has something in the tank.

Productive homestand, the Cubs have now put some daylight between them and Houston and picked up 2 1/2 games on the Cardinals.

Now if they can go 4-3 on this roadtrip.

I don't understand what has happened to Soriano. Last year he wasn't bad in the field, this year he has become a butcher.

I see Piniella has now taken Soriano out in the 9th a couple times lately. I thought Soriano's miscues early in the season were somewhat of an aberation, but going off what happened last Sunday and today, I have come around to the idea until Soriano becomes more consistent in the field, you need to take him out late in games like today.

I don't disagree, but he sure has been striking out a lot lately, especially for someone who's game is all about making contact. Hopefully this is just a matter of the inevitable adjustment period.

This is how you know things are going well: The jamokes on ESPN after the game were complaining that sure, the Cubs are winning games, but they're not getting blow-outs. They're only winning close games. :? Wow, I guess every sunny day has a cloud somewhere. If you have to try that hard to find something negative, things must be pretty darn good. 8)

As for the Score... they're Bears-intensive this afternoon. Makes sense as summer begins and both baseball teams are in first place.

Glad to see that it was just to make a defensive replacement, that Lou took Soriano out yesterday in the 9th. I was a bit concerned that he might have tweaked his leg with the stolen base in the bottom of the 8th. Soriano's bat came in handy with another homer, which is nice to see. Never have minded having his bat in the lineup. I just want him replaced in the field in the 9th, when we have the lead. But if that stolen base on Saturday, is an indication that he may start running again, that would certainly be a nice change for the offense. I kinda like the idea of a leadoff man being capable of stealing bases. As for the now concluded homestand, how sweep it was...
