I think the Cub will be lucky to win 90 games this year. That should get them the division, but it's not a foregone conclusion like some would lead you to believe.
I was one of the few postseason naysayers last year. I did not like the Dodger matchup from the start.
The bullpen could be problematic this year, as well as the starters. The Cub are a couple injuries or a couple bad years from key pitchers away from a mediocre season.

Frank's all good. Like most people on this board I can see how you might think one way or another about someone until you meet him. I'm sure I strike people differently once I've met them in person and they find out that I'm not the douchebag that I portray on this message board. Frank's a good guy. He's fun. Knows his sports. mark derosa - the greatest utility man in the history of baseball.

I just don't trust a full season of Mike Fontenot. He's a good little hitter, and he has his niche, but we can't rely on him. He was great in small doses as a competent fill-in at second when DeRosa was pressed into other fielding duties. I'd rather have DeRosa's versatility than three pitching prospects. Any way you slice it, it's a huge step back.

Like I said, this feels like 2005, where I convinced myself that the team was built to win despite an array of moves that made the team worse: replacing Sosa with Burnitz, Alou with Dubois (a/k/a The Internet's Dress Rehearsal For Matt Murton), and a rotation with Glendon Rusch in it. I'm just really concerned.

I'm right with you, CH. I think Fontenot will see a steady diet of inside breaking stuff and be exposed as the part time player he is.
The Bradley signing does nothing for me. Why sign a DH in the NL? Hendry's thought process baffles me at times.
The pitching staff is also a concern, both the rotation and the bullpen. I see Lou searching for set roles in the bullpen for the first couple months. That does not bode well for the season. I said they will be lucky to win 90 games. They could easily be below .500 for the season.
I just don't have a good feeling about this year, 1985 all over again.

now i am with you for a lot of what you are saying, but i just dont think it is that big of a step back. the only area it really is is the versatility. im with you on that, because im not real happy with the 3rd base situation. but fontenot IS a better fielding 2nd baseman than derosa, and he is a left-handed bat with some pop. even if he doesnt have the average that derosa did, i think he can hit for some power and put up good numbers. i think a lineup with fontenot at 2nd, bradley in right, and fuk and johnson in center is as good and maybe better than what they had last year. all that goes away if bradley gets hurt, which with him is always a matter of time. yes, they are thinner, but if they are playing to improve on the lineup of last year and fill weaknesses, i think they rolled the dice to try and make it happen.

thanks but hope i was wrong...i was in playoff frustration mode then...who knows...you just get a feel to being a cub fan...two good years (reg season) in a row...felt like the team was due for some mediocrity

I thought they were gonna finish 3rd in march last year...I guess hendry's stellar off season changed my mind.

Actually looking back...i thought the Brewers would be good...but aside from Hoffman...they didnt do much in the off season. Had they added a couple decent starters...theyd be scary.

I thought the Brewers needed a couple moves to stay good...turns out they didnt.
