I've looked up Santo's stats in the past and was slightly surprised that he didn't receive more consideration for the HOF. But after looking at the non-pitchers that made it into the Hall in the years he was eligible for the BBWA vote, it's no longer that surprising.
Duke Snider
Al Kaline
Lou Brock
Willie McCovey
Billy Williams
Willie Stargell
Carl Yastrzemski
Johnny Bench
Joe Morgan
Rod Carew
Reggie Jackson
Mike Schmidt
I can't honestly say that Ron Santo really fits in this group. I guess it's arguable, but I don't think it's as close as I once thought.

As Bernsie would say, it's not the Hall of the Very Good For A Long Time.

Yes,but compare him to other 3rd basemen of that era. Not much argument who was best.
All I ever here is Brooks was better. Yeah, maybe he was. What about the other 250 guys (est.) playing 3rd during his time?

Brooks did it on the big stage and did it for longer. More GGs, more All star appearances. ...Regardless of the fact that he just did it on reputation, that's what voters remember...rep.

Plus, Robinson's the only one. Sure, Santo was comparable as far as 3rd baseman go, but no other 3rd baseman in that era is in the Hall other than Robinson. So it's kinda hard to argue Santo's worth when it's based on a comparison to only one other guy at his position. He definitely doesn't measure up against Mike Schmidt or Eddie Matthews.

Maybe I'm alone here, and this could be pretty meatballish, but I want him to get in so we can stop hearing/talking about it. :x :x

I can get on board with that.
