On another site someone said I hope he isn't the next Dunston.

Would especially at first it be so bad if he's as good as Dunston was esp as he developed?

I just remembered about a week or so ago in the cubs.com Inbox article, Carrie Muskat shot down an emailer's question aboUt Castro coming up and Theriot moving to 2nd, saying it was not going to happen anytime soon, and that it is crazy to discuss it now.

Cubs.com needs a new beat writer.

uh...you do know that's all MLB controlled, right? She's a stooge. In fact, she may not be a real person.

Yes, yes, I know. But they still have 1 writer per team, and a few national mlb.com writers. Aren't these mlb.com team writers around the team at all, or are they glorified bloggers? Again, to shoutout Al over at BCB, that guy knows his shit. So why, with MLB.com's resources being official and all, am I stuck with the uninformed opinions of a Carrie Muskat. I would think an MLB.com beat writer would be more of an insider...or at least some information on the team he or she covers.

Bernstein and Rozner are going on and on about Theriot playing 2nd like he's moving from left field to pitch. The guys a natural 2nd baseman!

That has got to be a great feeling, to go from the nerves of your first ever MLB at bat to being able to trot around the bases after a 3 run jack! Well done kid!

They'll just sign Phil Nevin if something happens.

Wow - 6 RBI!! Looks like an actual real prospect!!! Hope he can flash the leather too. Theriot's lack of range will not be missed.

That'll probably be his career high in RBI too. Tough standard to live up to.

It is. Castro has set the record for most RBI in a first career game. The cycle would be incredible.

And he didn't even break a sweat doing it!

You know Kenny's on the phone right now. Calling up Hendry. Straight up, Bacon for Castro? Please?

And Hendry's telling him to get shit-faced.

The kid had one hell of a debut. I'm interested in seeing more though. I want to see how he fares against tougher pitching before I get too giggly. Homer Bailey....are we really gonna get crazy about a guy hitting that guy?? Castro can only hit the pitcher chosen to face him, but perhaps that was the reason the Cubs chose this game for him to debut in??? If so, it was a very good idea. Give the kid a better chance to hit the ground running. Lets see what happens next. Great debut though....

I would not be surprised if he hits three home runs all season. However, this kid is the goods. Lil' Fro Hit will be the Cubs SS for a long time.

I rarely ever get excited about anything, but you can't spell Starlin without STAR...

"The Dictator"...thats awesome

Drop in, 3 homeruns maybe but probably more triples than most, which is nice. Especially in wind blowing in situations.

Reason, this has gotta take you back to Honus Wagners debut. Were you this excited then?

The reason the Cubs couldn't swing a trade for Curtis Granderson this past winter, was that the Tigers wanted Darlin Starlin in the deal. That tells you something about how strongly they feel about the kid. he's done outstanding at every level thus far. However, I'm not gonna get carried away thinking he's ROY just yet. Lets see how he does over the next 10 days and whether or not he's truely ready to prosper at the major league level. Years ago plenty of 20 year olds made it to the majors and stayed. Today, it's rare that one gets called up and STAYS up, without having to go back to the minors to work on weaknesses that become exposed at the major league level. He can play SS and run well enough, but whether he can hit good pitching is the key. The guys he hit yesterday don't qualify as good pitchers. In the spring he hit some good ones, so I am cautiously optomistic.

Keep in mind, I thought this kid was AWESOME last night. I think he will be awesome going forward. I'm trying to control expectations on his power. His night made me remember why I torture myself watching sports.

If only Reason didn't put his Honus Wagner cards in the spokes of his horse drawn buggy as a young adult. Those are worth quite a bit of money these days.

Oh boy, you guys are a hoot.

Drop in, I put them in the spokes of my high-wheeled bicycle. We were too poor for a carriage and horses.

I remember the Series of 1909 between the Tiger and the Pirate. Cobb slapped a single to left and upon reaching first he yelled over to Wagner,"Hey Krauthead, here I come". Cobb took off on the next pitch. Wagner caught the throw from the catcher and applied a high tag to Cobb's gob loosening two teeth and knocking out one. Now that was baseball, my friends.
