I don't agree at all.

The fact that Brenly has a front row seat for this mess, knows the pressure he is going to get and is still willing to take the job says a ton ! He isn't coming here and is surprised at the fans and the pressure i.e. Dusty, Lou and Don Baylor.

I agree that his WS ring came as a result of having 2 dominating pitchers and a decent team, but he is a good manger and he does know this game inside and out.

If this guy was willing to take the job here, he is my #1 prospect.

this.

I don't think Brenly is the absolute savior, but he certain will be better than Lou has been this year. Sure he just announced his retirement, but I think its pretty clear that after the first couple weeks of the season, his heart wasn't in it and he had grown very tired and ready to hang 'em up.

I don't think Girardi is leaving NY. I think if LaRussa leaves the Cardinals, he doesn't manage anywhere for a year or 2. Brenly at this point would be better than Sandberg. I'd like to see Sandberg have at least a year or 2 on an MLB staff (base coach, bench coach, whatever) before he is given the reigns of a big leage club.

and this

More thoughts: LaRussa isn't coming to the Cub, no chance in hell. And Torre hasn't won anything without a murderer's row of a lineup - I'll pass on him

Maybe I'm giving fellow Cubs fans too much credit, but no one's taking a bus from Iowa to go see Sandberg manage them. It seems like another Bernsy made up argument that all Cubs fans are clamoring for Ryne to manage them at the expense of supposedly better candidates. I mean Dusty and Lou were the two of the best guys available when they were hired and we didn't win, so to automatically assume Torre, LaRussa, Brenly, or Girardi are better candidtaes than Sandberg doesn't seem to follow. Now I wouldn't be thrilled to have someone with no MLB bench experience as the manager but I could live with it, not because I think Sandberg bleeds Cubby blue or anything like that, but because absolutely nothing's been proven to work with this team anyway.

In today's advertisement, noted "Sox fan" Mike Nort wistfully recalls the halcyon days of Leo Durocher and every true Sox fan's favorite team, the '69 Cubs. Pappy also hopes his "buddy, Ryne Sandberg" gets the job, but he thinks the Cubs should interview him as well. You might think he was just kidding but this is a guy who really believed he should be a major league color commentator. I'm not sayin'. I jus' sayin'.

I hate Tony LaRussa. I don't want to reach a point where being a fan of a team goes from entertainment to being my job.

This isn't my business where I hire the best guy for the job even if I don't like his personal style or the person themselves. This is my entertainment and supporting Tony LaRussa is not entertaining for me. I'd feel the same way about Ozzie. No thanks.

Give me Girardi, Sandberg, Brenly and I'll take my chances.

Ozzie is one of the most entertaining managers in baseball. If that is part of your criteria, I would rate him #1.

Fair enough. But he's an entertaining jagoff IMO.

I haven't had to be exposed to his reported "jagoffness" as much as Ozzie so it's not my overall perception of him.

I understand why people view him as a tool, but there's really nobody better at in game management. Maybe Scioscia.

Wrong, Kirk. Ask bigfan, he'll tell you that Ozzie was never Kenny's guy.

I don't think that's true. You want a south side HOOTERVILLE Special? Try Aaron Rowand.

Fact: Ozzie was the HOOTERVILLE choice "Ozzie wont take any crap!"
Fact: Kenny Williams first choice was Cito Gaston

HOOTERVILLE

And Kenny was right

I'm with Frank here... I wouldn't characterize it as the "Meatball Choice".

More like the Chairman's Choice... I never liked Gaston, too Jerry Manuel-like for my tastes..

Hooterville is Sandberg.
Ryno was such a great player, we love Ryno!

Guillen was NOT hooterville before the fact. Afterwards, maybe.
And if you had read this thread, Roger:

I did read that.

Thats why I responded.

BigFan is right.

Kenny wanted Gaston over Guillen. There's no arguement.

Every Meatball fan wanted Ozzie back then. If not who did the Meatballs want?

Meatball choice: Guillen
Right Choice : Gaston

Sometimes the Meatballs stumble into being right...

Clearly you have written your own history on this. There was NOWHERE NEAR the clamoring for Ozzie Guillen as there has been for Ryne Sandberg.

Nowhere near. I am right in that regard.

You could have managed that roster. I guarantee you nobody is suggesting that Cito Gaston was ever a great strategist, IIRC he pretty much ran the same 9 guys out there every day.

Seriously, seriously not trying to stir shit with this comment, but..
Does Cito Gaston lead the '05 Sox to the WS? Why or why not?
Just curious fellas... I know Cito knows how to win 'em and knows how to handle players... if you have the talent, as the Sox did... would it matter which was manager?

That's because fewer people care about the White Sox than the Cubs.

I will say this. With as good a bullpen as the Sox had in 2005 (and year thier starters were great, but the pen was amazing), Cito would NOT have let 4 complete games happen in the ALCS. Bring in the pen in to one or more (or all) of those games and who knows what happens.

Ozzie was also ready to let Buerhle go out for the 10th inning of Game 2 if it went to extras, and Cito wouldn't have done that.
