Yeah, that's pretty much the only way to beat Marmol. You don't know where he's throwing, he doesn't know where he's throwing, his catcher doesn't know where he's throwing, but you're probably not hitting it. You have to make him pitch a lot and put a guy or two on so that he overcompensates by dialing down the crazy arm TOO much and gives you something blah, and even in that situation he still might pitch like a spaz anyway. So yeah, just never swing at a Marmol pitch.

What must it be like to face Marmol? Your best bet is to not bother swinging at all. I don't think I have ever seen a pitcher make Major League hitters look like he does.
It's like watching the hotshot Legion kid make the future forklift operators look like shit. He does it to the best of the best, just amazing.

Randy Johnson used to make batters and birds look silly on a regular basis.

Yep Doc, I think that is an apt comparison. Guys didn't know what to do with Sutter and his split-finger when he started throwing it in the mid-70s.

Well, Ryno knew what to do with it on that wonderful June afternoon in '84...

6/23/84

I just picked a spot and swung about 4 inches below that...

Pena has left 5 on base tonight, with 2 strikeouts. This guy is throwing garbage up there. I hit better pitching in college.

Garza is brutal. All the talk of him being good because he pitched in the AL East is way off so far. This guy can't miss a bat. He has given up 7 hits so far tonight and double digits against the fucking Pirates. His breaking ball is good, but his fastball seems to be straight because it gets smoked alot, Fielder with 3 doubles so far.

Garza is a good pitcher. Anyone can have an off night.

What I want to know is why the fuck Reed Mantle is in the lineup. He is a fine player to have off the bench, but there is no reason for Fuk to be sitting during his only 6 hot weeks of the season and Colvin isn't going to get any better talking philosophy with the god damn bench coach. 1 of those 2 should be in and not Reed.

Yeah I dont get why Reed would be in over those two. Shit like that scares me, makes me think meet the new coach just like the old coach.

Don't you have to give all the bench guys an occasional start?

Yeah, maybe in the dog days of summer where people are gassed and need some rest. I dont want to see that wierd facial haired motherfucker in the starting lineup until then.

Great job Shark. 30 plus pitches yet again in 1 inning of work with a solid 4 walks. Quality pitching right there. 1 more bad outing left....only 1 more left.

silva had a nice run to start next year for the cubs. who knows, maybe he can help them. i dont wish he was still a cub or anything, my hunch is that he caught lightening in a bottle the first couple months last season, but i dont really get all the anti-silva stuff around here either. he more than exceeded my wildest expectations last year, so thanks for that, and time to move on, out of sight out of mind.

The thing with Silva is that when he got to the Cubs anything positive he did was a plus because nothing was expected. After he kinda backed into a really good start he got a huge head and became a piece of shit in the clubhouse. If he could have just shut the hell up and done whatever they asked of him he would probable still be around in the pen and now starting with the injuries.

i never heard any talk of him being a piece of shit in the clubhouse last season. this spring he clearly had his problems and it was smart to unload him, but for the period they had him he produced as well as he has in a while.

were there reports last year during the season that he was a shithead in the clubhouse?

Cubs can't score shit last night against the shitty lefty, but score plenty against an ace and blow it.

I'm surprised. I thought they were going to win Friday and Saturday and get their asses kicked today. THey should have won this series. It is still early and I am still thinking they can win this division.
