Consistently not good?? He had an .816 OPS as a rookie. He deserved the chance to see what he can do with a 500+ AB season.

Come on, the guy did bash 20 HR and drove in 56 in 358 AB's with an OPS of .816 last year. That's decent for a first year player.

I guess that the drastic crash and burn when given the position at the beginning of this year did it for me. Almost 40 games of very, very, very bad.
I think he's yet another mediocre nobody that the Cubs fans will elevate to the ranks of HOF ready if he only got more time a la Patterson, Hoffpauir et all.

Yeah, he did that in 390 some AB's... not a bad 60% of a season and he wiffed 100 fuckin times. Once the pitchers caught up to him he was really bad.
The K's scare me. He kept striking out at a 25% of PA rate throught his career. That's too many K's for me.

He was no rookie this season Keyser. He was bad at hitting in his 3RD season this year.
fact is that the pitchers found his hole, and he couldn't adjust.
And again, he should abolutely NOT have continued to start regularly this year. He had his chance and blew it. BIG time blew it. In AAA, he's where he should be.
In a disaster like the final 50 games of a tossaway season, sure toss him out there. Im sure they will, and I bet he will be bad.

He never did start regularly this year. Fuk was in the opening day lineup and played 80% of the time.

Stats show 38 games, 100AB's... so that comes out to just under 3 AB's a game...
That's more than a sip of coffee, but I acknowlede that he didn't start every day.
Like I said... Ahem... he has had plenty of chances.
EITHER WAY, as to my original point... he shouldn't have been a regular starter this year.

I don't think platooning helped him any. He had a decent year last year and as expected other teams and pitchers made adjustments to him. He then needed to take the next step in his development and adjust to these adjustments. He struggled to do so and being taken out of the lineup every other day probably compounded that. Had he just been left alone out there without any worry of Fuk looking over his shoulder he may have relaxed some and made the adjustments.

If Fuk is gone then Colvin will surely finish out the season.
I have no doubt that he will have a negative WAR and be otherwise useless at the plate and servicable in right.
He's just a guy. Nothing more than that. Just a guy. In fact this might be the guy that WAR is based on.

He was a rookie when he accrued all those nasty strikeouts.

My point is this team was never going to contend this season and there was absolutely no reason to play god awful Fukudome in right field when you have the chance to give everyday at bats to a young player. What's the worse case scenario? They have the worst record in baseball instead of the 2nd worst? They go 30 games under .500 instead of 25? It was another opportunity lost in a woefully awful season.

And my rebuttal was that the same percentages followed next year. Same ratio.


Well, a couple things... first is that you might as well get Fuk's April thru early June. He's pretty damn good then historically. Back then, Cubs were indeed trying to win games. This season didn't really go throwaway until late May (unbelieveable that early eh?), and by they Colvin was wiffin his way thru his first 100 PA's and looked like he was having trouble. Back then, a reasonable fan might say, send him down and get his work in.
But I agree. Give him the remaining 58 games. We'll revisit this in October and see what he did. I would wager it won't be very impressive.

Reed should be inserted into the leadoff spot in place of Fuk whom Sloth for some reason started. I think he will find a way to fuck the entire lineup to avoid the easy swap of Reed for Fuk though.
