More likely he's signing Donnie Murphy to a personal services contract that will remain in his desk drawer until Murphy's Hall of Fame career is complete.

Wow. Confirmation of a major mistake by Theo. They should have hired Ryno.

I would rather have a smart former catcher than a drunk former infielder. Swaimer was more like a bouncer protecting the clubhouse. T

Just heard Big Voice say the following on 670:

"Dale Sveum has been fired, and is no longer the manager of the Cubs!"

Is this opposed to the sort of termination where you continue to hold your job?

Theo/Jed get one more hire. Next manager has to be the one that leads them to be a perennial playoff team or the blame is going to rightfully shift to the front office.

With the Cubs you need to be clear. Remember spineless Ricketts had fired Hendry but kept him on for a month to handle the trade deadline and sign draft picks.

I wasn't sure about trying to get Girardi at first but now I like it. He has the tactical and cerebral aspect/former catcher and he also commands a tremendous amount of respect. I have 100 percent confidence that he would take the job to do the job and not just to cash a check.

The trade between the Nationals and Rays involving DeJesus and a PTBNL has already been completed for a few weeks as the player was named. The prior trade between the Cubs and Nationals for DeJesus and a PTBNL has still not been finalized to my knowledge. Who is the player to be named??

They picked up Mat Gamel on waivers from the Brewers. I like it. If his career is over, it cost 20k.

He was the starting first baseman at the beginning of 2012 and 2013. He tore his right ACL twice.

That's a lot of money to pay a manager that's going to lose 200 games over the next 2 years

I said it would be 30/35 before Mr. Genius Dan Bernstein said it. Did I do this right?

2 year deal for Sweeney.

@BNightengale Sweeney will get $1.5 million in 2014 and 2015 w a $2.5 million option or $500,000 buyout

More local stories broken by national guys. Our beat writers are a joke across town save some Bears coverage.

Where was the kapman?? ...and how does Muskat have all kinds of breaking lineup news and knowledge of the team but is nowhere to be found for this?

I realize he is no superstar but he did a fine all-around job for the Cubs. I think they locked him up because they will try to deal Nate Sheirholtz for something. Between Sweeney & Bosovic, they have enough LH OF bats.

It's not a bad contract at all for a guy who can hit a little bit and be your 4th OF.

I think he will be starting in CF most of next year if not all.

Nice link above regarding FA's.

I have some offseason questions:

Resign the backup catcher or bring back Soto?

Resign Scott Baker?

Next 2nd baseman is? Murphy,Watkins platoon maybe?

3rd base need an upgrade? Valbeuna can't hit for average but isn't terrible.

Lake fulltime in LF?

What about CF & RF?

Bullpen look better than it did going into 2013?
