Tim McCarver is gracing us with his presence on FSN Midwest for today's game and just said he doesn't understand why the Cubs, who play in the National League and don't have a DH, would sign him.

Can't get nothing past Tim.

Apparently it needed to be repeated.

"But to go back to Manny...I just can't understand why a team that doesn't have a DH would sign him"

Not really.

Sammy's status with the Cubs is not based on any alleged steroid use. Its based on the way he left.

They should get over it, anyway

Oh, you mean when he did something the last day of the season that was akin to numerous things he was allowed to do as a Cubs player, but because the Cubs had no more use for him they went public and made a big deal out of it?

I'm glad the Cubs are able to have a proven two time cheater in the organization but not the guy who helped make them the cash cow they have been from the mid 90s thru today.

I'm not. He clearly did some douchey things, but for the Cubs to pretend he doesn't exist is just awful on their part. Especially now that they have signed a known cheater and a guy who, at times, can be just as big of an assbag as Sammy was.

He'll live

I think they'll bring him back.

Its not like they told a two time MVP and World Series Champion to "stay out of Cubs business"

...and then welcomed him back with open arms with a video tribute when he was an opponent, have given him a statue, and retired his number.

Ah, so was it awful before they did that?

I don't think it was the best move by either guy. Both probably should have just shut up about it. This was just a few months after he left the organization though, it didn't drag out for years like other teams have.

Between the Ricketts video and the Manny signing its really a strange week for the Cubs. All this talent in the minors we hear about constantly, and they bring in Manny Ramirez to be a coach? A great hitter he was, a great person or a great leader, not so much.

I dont see how you could possibly know that.

Unless you're eliminating all guys who did steroids as leaders.

Anyway, none of this is bad as what they did to poor Carlton Fisk

I agree with the Fisk thing. That was particularly brutal. At least they've tried to make that up to him over the years.

There you go. So you realize these items take time. For example, Ditka got his number retired just last year. So stop being a baby.

When will the Cubs lift the ban on Steve Bartman?

I was half kidding. It sucked, but as fans we never know the whole story.

What did they do to Fisk? Allow him to break a record when it was obvious to everyone he could no longer play? And then he acted like a dick.

I knew that would bring you out

They probably could have cut him at home. But like I said, who knows. Maybe Fisk was being a dick behind the scenes.

They could have at least let him in the ballpark during the '93 ALCS.

I don't like Frank's Manny comments. Manny is/was a tremendous ballplayer and seems like an awesome guy. I don't get the hate.

It is because he signed a contract with the Cubs.

If he signed with the Sox in a similar situation Frank would be bending over backwards to defend him.

 Yeah the Sox had Manny and it really didn't work out. At least he wasn't a coach for them though.

Which one of Manny's White Sox home run was your favorite?

Manny reportedly will only play on Thursdays. He is penciled in for the second game of Iowa's DH today.
