Theo (minus the Jackson deal) has done a pretty good job with finding pitchers. The hitting is in the minors. I just don't understand how he can't rent a hitter for a season here and there. Why is it ok for SP but not a hitter?

Vizcaino has to be a pretty lights out closer/fireman for the Maholm trade to be a win. Maholm provided better production for the Cubs/Braves over his 2 year deal than Jackson has at half the cost. To only get Vizcaino for 1.5 years Maholm in retrospect looks meh.

Nothing to really complain about with the trading record. The draft has been okay. It's his big time free agent signing record that has always been his downfall.

Maybe that is why he is trying to avoid paying big money in free agency --- he knows he will choke.

Its not like he's been terrible in free agency. There have been as many good moves as bad ones.

When you shell out big bucks, 50% isn't good enough.

We're talking about to a GM correct because there is NOTHING in Theo's Cubs work to indicate he is some top of the line GM for the money he is paid.

It happens so often across industry (and life for that matter) that a person does something fantastic at a young age and people expect growth to even greater heights that is ultimately unrealized. Theo's been fine. I would expect exceptional, cutting edge type of stuff for his compensation. The most truly innovative theory he has right now is drafting power. Otherwise, everything I see is purely conventional.
