Do you mean like 1 out of 10 bad or like 1 out of a million bad?

If Hawk had said something like "Matt Davidson has the chance to make 6 AS games before he turns 29, Cubs fans would be laughing all over the place. And rightly show since Davidson is 22 right now. That would mean he comes up next year and makes 6 AS games in a row.

At least you now realize that Hawk is not the only homer announcer in town.

You believe that top 5 prospects and a guy ranked in the 70's are equal?

I thought we should expect all star appearances and MVPs?

Davidson is 23 right now.

I'm SABRmetric. I put ZERO stock in subjective rankings.

This sounds just like a Baby McNown argument.
Don't talk about Obama, because Bush was worse!!!
Say that Kasper and Deshaies were wrong, but don't compare them to Hawk.
And predicting future all-stars is a fallacious thing to do anyway.
You really have to look at who the all-star players that play now to judge a new player's chances at making it.
It's silly to predict that.

That's fine. The guy Im asking is telling me I should expect multiple all star appearances and an MVP from the Cub prospects.

What about minor league SABRmetrics?

How bout a list of OPS?

I agree. Right now Matt Davidson and Kris Bryant are exactly the same. Two bad third basemen who have never hit big league pitching.

Right and LeBron and Kirk Heinrich were exactly the same.

Also Adrian Peterson and Garret Wolfe

If you mean the stutterer, then I doubt anybody would disagree.

There is also a chance Bryant and Baez make zero all-star games. Maybe about the same chance as them making 5 or 6 by age 28.

Are you saying that basketball and football players who are finished products can really be compared to baseball players who require development? You know it's not the same. LeBron James was ready to be a top NBA player in high school. There is almost never a guy who can come from high school or college and play effectively in the big leagues. And in the rare instances there is, it's usually a pitcher.

You're underselling how many college players are ready for MLB and overselling how NFL/NBA guys are finished products that require no development

Im sorry its just a ridiculous position to say that everything pre MLB should be ignored. You sound like Cliff Claven saying that him, Davidon and Bryant have all never been to Alcocks.

Some guys have more talent and its evident. Some Scouts are real good. Some sabr guys are real good.

The fact that its not an exact science doesnt mean it ceases to exist or should be ignored.

Baseball success is far more complicated than those other sports. In basketball you can see a big wang whipper in high school. He's 6'10", can bench press 400 lbs., and has great quickness and reflexes. When he enters the NBA those things carry him. If he's bigger, stronger, and faster than the other guy he'll beat him. Sure, experience couns for something. But it's really pretty simple and it doesn't take long for the more physically gifted guy to overwhelm crafty Hinrich. Same thing in football. If a 20 year old is faster and stronger, he can quickly learn the plays and kick your ass. Except for Devin Hester.

In baseball, a guy can be as talented as he wants, but when he gets to the big leagues he's facing a completely different class of pitcher. There are few Kalines and Trouts that can just walk up there and pound them. That's why we talk about those guys. if you're comfortable saying Kris Bryant is one of those guys, great. Maybe Schwarber is too. Hell, maybe they all are. I read yesterday the Cubs are the World Series favorites for 2017. Maybe I'm just the crazy one.

Im comfortable saying that Bryant has a better chance at greatness than Davidson.

It might be 30% Bryant and 14% Davidson but its there.

I've never seen either one of them take a single at-bat. I'm not as comfortable as you making such a proclamation. If I had to bet, I'd go with in twenty years we won't be talking about either of them.

Who cares?

Will Troy Glaus be talked about 20 years later? Probably not.
