Keep hope alive, Kirkwood. That's the beauty of hope. It's always about next year when things are better.

Next year they will be. Anyone can see that.

Based on what? Your hope that a bunch of guys will improve? Your hope that TheoandJed will sign a pitcher who has a great 2016 season?

But you can't have it both ways. Either you're trying to win this season or you're waiting 'til next year. Again. I think we all know which it is. Let me know when next year arrives.

What are you talking about?

HOPE.

The Cubs are trying to win this season, the next season and the next 10 seasons after that. I'm excited. As should every Cubs fan. The future isn't pigeonholed into a 3-year window where year 1 is already a stinker.

It does not have to be either/or.

I believe they are trying to win this season and I believe they will make a trade(s) before the deadline.

But you do not have to trade away your top prospects to be trying to win this season. The Royals got Cueto without having to give up their top prospect. There is no doubt they are trying to win

Well, you aren't getting much back for the bums that most Cub fans want to "package".

You don't know what Cubs management is targeting or offering.

Neither do you. What we do know is you don't want to give up anyone who is any good. You fantasize about someone giving you a pitcher who will help win the Wild Card for Alcantara and that ain't happening. I suspect we'll be having a similar conversation about how 2017 is the Cubs' year around this time next season.

Not really. Theo/Jed have been hedging their excitement on the team's performance all year. I don't really expect anything earth shattering. The offseason is where I expect moves will be made.

There is always hope for next year, especially if you're a year early.

No...what I'm trying to say is Usually pitching is very hard to acquire.. This off season is an anomaly... You can't bank on that . Abattaclueless is an idiot.

The whole rationale behind CJ Edwards as the best pitcher on the farm (yikes!) was that resources were better spent finding guys who can hit. The Cubs had bet on developing hitters via a half-decade of tanking and solving the pitching as they've gone along.

Well, as it turns out, they haven't managed to develop any position players who strIke out less than 30% of the time. Occasionally one will rake upon being called up (Soler, Bryant) only to be figured out eventually, but most of them just look hopeless for a couple months. Those guys are just sent to the glue factory and replaced by the next HOT 'SPECT who is clearly destined for the Hall of Fame. It's pretty fucking cynical by the Cubs, but also a little brilliant.

The Cubs accidentally fell face first into a great rotation but can't score runs despite tanking so long to find guys who can score runs.

Which ones won't be everyday players and/or stars America? Step out on a limb....and they "lucked" into a rotation? Huh? You don't think they saw Jake and Jason coming?
