This is just an amazing statement.

Why not just suck until 2020?

Yeah - not a thought shared by the rest of us.

If you have a chance to succeed now without sacrificing chances to succeed in the future, you do it.

Lester may not be Kershaw, but he is a pitcher that can help a team at the front of their rotation. He is pricey, but the contract wouldn't prevent the Cubs from doing other things. And it would cost the Cubs no prospects, which could develop into pieces to help the club or be traded off for additional pieces to help the club.

and COF isn't taking into account that you don't just steak dinner, boom a starting rotation

Sign a guy this year even if you don't intend to contend. It is easier than trying to sign two next year.

do you think the Cubs have had a decent rotation the last two-three years? "Sign a guy". Yeah, well, Edwin Jackson. And Blackhawks.

Trying to win the division with this current collection of talent is not only foolish but near impossible. Why do people expect all these kids to figure out their major league selves in a few months? You expect Bryant, Soler, Alcantara, Baez and maybe others to simply be good to great in their first full major league season? DO YOU? I don't trust Theo in the free agent market. I want him to get the majority of his talent through his system.
So I ask why again would you try and compete in 2016? Why not target 2020 when all those players should be in their prime?

one year should be enough to figure out who to keep and who to dump, who to play at what position. Again, you're being disingenuous. I don't like Lester, I don't like Shields and I like Max but he's not coming to the Cubs. I'll take next years class for six years, Alex.

Suck one more year, play all your kids and evaluate them at the major league level, get one more high draft pick while the division is so good, then put everything in for 2016. Why would you want any of these pitchers (see: Jeff Samardzija)?

I thought it was a great idea to let the kids play without pressure this season. I guess Theo wants to speed the process up.

He doesn't. He said 18 months for a signing and it is looking like that is his timeframe.

If they sign Lester and make the trade for Montero I think it is clear that you are wrong. It really doesn't make sense IMO. Let the kids develop for a year and then go all in in 2016. Making the playoffs this year is pointless.

Making the playoffs this year shouldn't be the goal. Is that really outrageous? If the Cubs and Sox swapped farm systems you would probably agree. Developing the kids should be the most important thing. Putting unnecessary pressure on them could stunt their growth.

I think the diminished prospect of winning the 2015 BP Cup has really shaken Cub fans today...lots of temporary insanity floating around.

Yup. All-time bad thoughts by Nas here, which is really saying something.

So your primary goal would be making the playoffs instead of developing your young talent?

Your primary goal is always making the playoffs. You have your priorities out of line due to the mental abuse this organization has heaped on you the last 3+ years

In general I would agree with you but you're wrong when it comes to this Cubs team. Their objective was to tank so they could build from the bottom up. Their best players haven't made it to the majors or even played half a season yet. When Theo said the Cubs were 18 months away from going really going for it that made sense. It would give the kids a full season to develop and that would help them decide who they should keep. Now it appears he is going for it at the expense of developing the minor league talent.

The two are not mutually exclusive. And if for some reason they were, the answer to your question is yes, of course.

We know what the objective was for this team. We disagree with it being the correct way of building a team.

You have no way of knowing if their best players are on the team yet. I'd be willing to bet that Rizzo is their best player of this crop.

Many feel Bryant and Soler will definitely be better and Russell may be. I like the Sox way better (acquiring major league ready players) but I understood Theo's thinking. Now I'm a little confused.

NO I have the all time bad baseball thought market concerned. Equating the Cubs rebuild to the Braves late 80's rebuild owns the day.
