Not THIS. A letter means he's scared??? He had some schmo write it up, signed it and said, "Jeez, that took even less effort than I thought"

Letters to STH have become trendy with owners.

I share a Cubs season ticket—I get ten games. I already told the holder I’m out for next year. I have two tix to a Wed 1:20 game on the the 23rd. I can’t go, and can’t find someone willing to go for free. So I’m eating $180.

This is the same reason I got rid of my Bears tix. Thursday night December games versus the Lions are worthless.

I’m better off just choosing the games I want to attend on the secondary market and optimizing the matchups/weather and paying a premium.

I did the same. My brother is the official owner of the tickets and I was part of the 10 who split the tickets. Would have stayed in if I lived in Illinois. Normally get back to Chicago twice during the season but haven't been to a game in years. I kept in because of the chance to get back to the playoffs/WS. Don't see that happening any time soon so I'm out.

He wasn't writing letters when they were winning.

Get ready for the first "State of the Team" conference at the Oriental Theater in quite awhile.

I dont understand this. Why wouldn’t I just bet from the Fanduel app on my phone? I guess if it’s like a Vegas sports book, people would go to watch games/fights there.

I think the letter is equivalent to the call waiting where the voice says, "We are sorry for the wait. Your call is important to us"

I went to hundreds of games where that team was going nowhere.

The Cub problem is that Wrigley really is a fun experience to watch a game. A good portion of the younger people use it as a tailgate to the weekend party. They don’t care who is winning.

That’s always going to be there.

That's just it. I don't think it is "always going to be there". I think the success and the World Series win ended that. The Cubs aren't going to be Lovable Losers when they lose 100 games next season. They'll just be losers.

One thing I remember bernstein saying a long time ago is that Cub games were singular events. Lots of fans attended the games and if they lost it was a great time and if they won it was even better. But the win or loss wasn't related to the larger season or the pursuit of a championship. The Cubs win a championship? That was a pipedream. Like watching greyhounds chasing a mechanical rabbit you knew they would never catch.

That's all gone now. The Cubs are a normal team. Wrigley isn't quaint the way it used to be. There are hideous video boards cluttering the outfield and screaming walkup music by Imagine Dragons and Arctic Monkey.

They aren't going to be given the Lovable Loser breaks the way they used to be. My friend who is the biggest Cub fan I know and has had season tickets for 25 years said he's out next season. I doubt that will actually be the case, but one thing for sure, he ain't happy and that's something new.

I don't blame anyone for not going. Why should anyone pay to see what they're putting on the field?
I know you're just trying to dunk of cubs fans. Because you're awesome. But I'm not watching and I'm certainly not gonna pay for that shit.

I'm guessing all those tickets are sold.

But, I'll admit I might have underestimated how bad they would be.

At the same time, I recall mid-90s Cubs teams that packed the bleachers because we all just needed something to do and that neighborhood is way more developed now than it even was then.

But, the ticket prices were different - even given inflation and CPI. So, you might be right.

I'm not rooting for them to be bad and maintain revenue. I love finance but I love sports more.

I'm not dunking on Cub fans. I'm pointing out that just throwing open the gates to Wrigley ain't gonna cut it anymore.

I looked at tix for the Royals series figuring they’d be dirt cheap. The auction sites didn’t seem to reflect the post fire sale reality of the Cubs. First section behind the dugout was still like $400 for what should be under $100 a seat.

Well not at $80 for a ticket to the Bud Light Bleachers Presented by Toyota.

I had a buddy offer a "B1G1" for Cubs Sox Sunday night..good, not great seats up the 1st base line. $180.

Insanity.

Laugh now, but when Jamie Dimon repossesses an empty Wrigley Field, the current NASCAR motif will look quaint by comparison of what’s to come.

Not really. The amount of ads and signage there is at Wrigley makes it look like a giant NASCAR.

Yeah, no other stadium in the city has signage in it.

I certainly didn't say that. But almost no other stadium in sports is painted as some sort of historic Cathedral, and has under gone so many changes that it's charm is maybe not completely gone, but it's definitely been greatly reduced. The signage, the video boards, other facilities, and aspects... it's indistinguishable from other sports stadiums in some ways.
