True but now she seems to be spreading her idiotic ramblings at a more frequent pace.

That was DeRosa's fault, not Fukodome's. DeRosa just put his head down and ran, not realizing that Fukodome put on the breaks.

I was at the game today. When Fukodome hit that jack, it was the most electricity for a Cubs game that I can remember since the Clemens/Wood game.

I know its only one game, but the leadoff spot is looking like a huge hole. Hate to see Wood struggle in his first outing, but they will be fine, especially if the Brewers are our biggest threat. The Brew Crew really has a huge hole in the bullpen, and I think Gagne makes it bigger.

I am over it now, but thanks for the correction. I still think baserunning mistakes are to often with this team though. Even when I was in AZ for a week and caught a few games, they had been picked off or overran a base and got tagged out. Its frustrating because they say they are better at it, but yet, it still happens.

here is a puzzler to me...

pie gets on on that infield hit with the game tied 3-3 with a couple outs, and fontenot up. kendall is the catcher. the queen of ENGLAND can steal a base on kendall. PITCHERS were stealing on kendall last year when he was with the cubs. the first base coach can steal on kendall! let pie run, the lazy shit gagne is tossing up there there is no WAY kendall throws out pie. then a base hit wins the game. i am really puzzled that they didnt even try to steal that game right there and then, and give fontenot a chance to win it with a base hit.

ah well....game one. very pleased with big z's performance, and marmol looks like he is right back where he used to be. somewhat suprised they brought woody in in the tie game, and not howry, but it probably wouldnt have made much difference.

had to feel good for fukudome, what a way to win over the fans right away. that was a heck of a drive on that homer. most of the swings we saw during the spring were that ichiro slap-type swing, but he busted out the hammer on gagne. gagne looks terrible. you could clock his pitches with a sun dial. that team has major issues if he and turnbow are the closers, oh my.

Excuse me for not being a meatball moron and panicking over 1 game.

This panic over 1 game is the all time dumbest thing I've ever seen.

And of course since most of you are Sox fans why do you give a flying poop?

i am missing the part where anyone is panicking. the comments i have read point to a possible issue with the top portion of the lineup, which is a known issue that was very evident yesterday, and to woodys control, which as ricky weeks can atest, may have been a bit shaky yesterday.

ok, maybe this post is a bit panicky:

Ok great one, tell me that this loss is not the same type of loss we have seen time after time for the last 5 years. Its old, it boring and its unexcusable. I know the game to, been watching it for 38 years and if this is they way they are going to approach their games, its going to be a long season. That is what I am trying to say.

Anyone who goes away from this game thinking it was a good game, they are nuts.

1. Theriot and SOriano go 0-12.

2. Fukudome had a great game, but killed them with being picked off while on second.

3. Wood did nothing to impress me. 1 inning, 3 runs, 1 HBP. That concerns me.

4. Soto not being able to catch a foul by braun.

5. Team still strikes out to much. Theriot, Soriano and Lee both struck out twice today, not good and something that will happen enough during the season to annoy me. I have been saying this for 2 years, Lee has to start swinging at those 1st pitch fastballs they give him.

6. Lou decision to bring in wood in a non save situation, no not a good choice.

7. Felix Pie still cant hit major league pitching, that is painfully apparent.

So after watching that game and those being facts as I stated, how do I walk away not being discouraged? Yes, its the first game, but these are thngs that I am willing to bet on that will repeat themselfs during the season, thats a bad thing. With todays game, you also go away thinking do they need a leadoff hitter, do they need a closer, what happens if Soto doesnt pan out as thought? Those are huge concerns and very legitmate questions.

As far as sheets goes, he is a decent major league pitcher who has never recieved a vote in the cy young voting, so he isnt a stud, he is a matt morris type at best. He doesnt concern me, because come june, he will be hurt, just dont put him up their with the best pitchers in the league, because he is nowhere neat that team picture.

Yes, I still think they will win the division, but these stupid mistakes have to stop. I also feel much better about getting the brewers out of the way quickly this year, because Gagne sucks and with a bullpen of Torres, Linbrink and the other stiffs they have, it will be a long summer for that pitching staff.

they'll be fine.

Pie came up limping after he was tackled/eaten by fielder at first base. That probably had something to do with it.

good point, fielder hit him in the stomach with the tag. that shouldnt affect his ability to run so much that he cant steal on jason kendall, though.

I think Aretha Franklin could steal on Kendall and even if she had a broken leg!

Were the boos for Wood pretty loud?

From what I heard the boos weren't very loud. Those that were booing were doing the usual obscene gestures foul language routine which tells the world we should be happy their wives and kids are being spared a beating.

Pretty loud. Not Corey Patterson loud, but still loud nonetheless.

Game 2 tomorrow, boys.
Lilly vs. Suppan 1:20p.

I thought that the offense looked a little flat yesterday, and that it was nothing or Fuk. That might be Cubbie swagger or maybe Sheets is nice and healthy. If so, I expect the Brewers to be a little tougher than I anticipated early on. then again, it is only one game. I just don't want ot be saying it's only one month, or only one spring.
I expect a bit of a turnaround tomorrow.

The Brewers have a big-time lineup and their offense wasn't doing much, either. Cold weather, rain, aces pitching, yadda yadda.

The Cubs' offense will struggle with OBP as usual...but it won't likely be the downfall of the team. (until the playoffs anyway).

Given the optimism going into the season it would be tough to lose the first series of the season to the Brew Crew, but as long as they think Gagne is an everyday closer still, I dont see how they contend for the division. He is god-awful.

Lilly didnt have it today, and now Wuertz is in trouble too. No offense like the first game so far. If they can get it within 3 by the 9th and face Gagne they have a shot.

Just horrible enough to get Soriano to strike out in a critical spot.

2 errors, sloppy play, poor pitching and no clutch hitting again, <sigh>. I just hate these slow starts.

Lou has announced that he will hit leadoff tommorow. Piniella knows something we don't I take it?

its the old "hes COMFORTABLE hitting at the top" routine, even though he has no leadoff skills whatsoever. and i HOPE he knows a lot more than we do, or else this team is a LOT of trouble.
