 No GM would pass on a pitcher with a sub 1 ERA because he doesn't have enough wins while playing for one of the worst teams in MLB.

If I were trading him I would rather he have the W's than not, assuming the era is the same. It can't hurt in negotiations for the compensation in the trade.

This started as a joke but now I believe it.
100% of players throught baseball history wouldn't run out a line drive to a third baseman? Fuck you. We wonder why Castro has his head in his ass most of the time, and now we're learning why.

Why not bring in LaHair to pinch hit with 2 on representing tying run in the 9th?

WTF?

For the life of me, I have no idea why they think LaHair sucks so bad. Best player on the team this year, and they platoon his ass.

I think Svuem sucked down to many kegs of bad beer while in Milwaukee. He does a lousy job managing the pitching staff and his use of his bench on any given day is terrible also.

It is not rocket science.

WTF?

Have you seen his numbers against lefties?

1. Who gives a shit? He is the best hitter on your team. He should play everyday, not Jeff Baker.
2. How is he supposed to get better hitting left handed pitching if he's not allowed to hit against left handed pitching?
3. What player on the Cubs is just crushing lefties? Answer: none. Batting a collective .230 against them and have gone 3-14 with them pitching.
4. Small sample size. Who knows how he would actually do against lefties if he isn't given a chance? I doubt he was platooned against lefties in AAA for 9 years when he was crushing the ball there.
5. You greatly diminish his trade value by basically telling every other team that he is nothing more than a platoon player.

LaHair is better than Paul Konerko.

I don't get why they gave him about 1 week to hit lefties if that and then decided he will never hit against a lefty every again. I have no idea what they are thinking other than keeping his numbers up so they can trade him....but what team wouldn't look deeper than his numbers and realize they wont let him hit lefties?

I don't think anyone wanted him as the closer or on the team since day 1. This is just the end to the last attempt at a showcase for a trade.

The real question is whether Ricker is ready to eat 10 mil.

Marmol must go. He should have never been brought back after the failed trade attempt to the Angels. Ricketts needs to show the fans he is serious, and just eat the money and release him. Those fastballs were meatballs right down the middle, even Soriano would've of hit them.

I understand why Dale is using Marmol...they need him to show he can still close games and then they can trade him-maybe. But if a team is gonna take on all/most of his 9 million dollar contract, are they also gonna give up a good prospect? I can't see a team taking on more than half his salary and giving up more than a marginal prospect. Letting him lose winable games to try to get a marginal prospect doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Going to be very interesting to see how Sveum handles this. Marmol should be mop-up duty. There is no way he can any confidence in him as his closer right now. If he continues to trot him out there to lose the precious few games this team will win, I'll have to guess that's an order from upstairs. He can't be that stupid.

Agreed. It's obvious Ricketts or someone was not a Sandberg fan.

Damn shame. I think he'd have made a helluva manager. And still may.

In Philly.

They hired Swamer so the could fire a non popular manager. The next hire will be the GUY. It will not be this guy. Clueless shill for the rebuilding but the Cubs will never admit it.

We are rapidly approaching thiz point. Very soon tbe knives will be out for the mansger. Sure the talent blows but how hard do you have to try to have 90 percent of your moves backfire? No one fucking cares about the cubs and we still have a week till may. They may want to do something rediculous to stop the bleeding like say call up a prospect to gain some buzz?? Otherwise the games are going to be preempted by gilmore girls and andy griffiith.

There is no one to call up. Junior Lake is broken and probably wouldnt excite anyone anyways. Szcur and Ha are about the only two worth calling up if I was forced to pick 2 and they are in AA.

Dusty Baker faced the same pitchforks when he was given a miserable team with a ton of SP injuries. I'll point a lot of fingers (see Chris Bosio thread) before I blame Sveum.
