RPB is a lot smarter than he posts. He's a character, doing a bit, playing a meatball two-thirds to 1/2 of the time.

I figured he'd come thru there. He seems to thrive in those situations.

His overall numbers are still kinda bad though

...the fuck?

You can rip me for a lot of things on here and be correct. Meatballism is not one of them though

Arent meatballs positive about their teams? Youd be hard pressed to find much positivity from me on The Cubs, Bears, or Bulls

On the other hand you can find many posts praising the Cardinals, which would be the antithesis of meatballism

I dont know if it has to do with Semien but I really hope you're not labeling ne a meatbsll for being critical of a guy with a sub 300 obp.

I just figure if he's gonna make outs 75% of the time, you may as well just out Beckham and his stellar glove out there. 2B and SS are two positions where the d is pretty important in relation to hitting

Anyway, Id like to know what youre referring to because other than justifiably criticizing your guy Semien, I dont know whst you're talking about

Some would say arguing for your guy with the .222 ba would be the actions of a meatball

I think it is a hard sell when only one team is trying to win championships.

The Sox came away with the victory last nite despite the stupidity of Ventura and Dunn. That is a game they lose against better competition. But a W is a W, I'll take it.

I wouldn't say Wrigley is " bipolar " its pretty much a pitchers park until mid -late June.

Dunn should be benched for that base running .

Couldn't Emmanuel tell the tourism board to throw them $100 for cup transfer fees and just call it the Chicago Cup for a couple of years?

Not really. I mean for the most part that's how it plays, but there are warm days in April and May and cold ones in June.

I dont know of any other park that plays like Petco one day and Minute Maid the next

And it's not just the temperature. If the wind were blowing out as hard as it was blowing in last night Samardzija and Quintana would have likely lasted about four innings each and at least one team probably would have scored in double figures.

Quintana was perfect into the 5th and didn't give up a hit until the 6th, but a change of wind direction would have had him knocked out of the game in the 4th?  C'mon, JOrr. I guess some of those ground balls would have been blown into the alleys for stand up doubles, huh?

Okay, Frank. The conditions had nothing at all to do with Quintana's performance. Have you ever seen the wind blowing out hard at Wrigley? The ball gets in the air and flies out. The games scores are 16-15 or sometimes 23-22. I guess the pitchers just sucked on those days.

In a 23-22 game? Yeah, I guess they probably did.

Are you forgetting that the greatest pitching performance in baseball history happened at Wrigley?

Did I say that? The conditions likely favored Quintana, as they did Samardzzzzja. Different conditions may have resulted in more runs, but a guy doesn't retire 16 batters in a row solely based on the weather. Even you aren't that obtuse.

Yes, I've seen that happen.

 The 23-22 happened ONCE in the over 100 year history of Wrigley Field, and can you even tell me when the last 16-15, or 15-12 game was there?

On a cold, drizzly day early in the season! Wood would have only struck out 2 guys if the temp was 75!!

Yeah, that's making JORR's point for him. Terrible day for hitting.

Right, but again you don't strike out 20 MLB hitters only because of the weather being bad. Maybe on an 80 degree day he strikes out 16 and gives up 3 hits, but still dominates from start to finish. Or maybe he strikes out 21, who knows. I don't, and Joe Orr doesn't.

That's the point. if you're using the score itself to make that judgment it's pretty obvious. But I don't think Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn could have pitched well on a day like that. Just like that game last night was going to be low scoring no matter who pitched.

Yep. There has never been a high scoring game in cold weather, thats for sure.

Of course. And sensible people don't pick the most extreme examples to make their arguments. There are at least several games at Wrigley every season when balls are flying out of the park and one or sometimes both team score in double figures and at least several more where it is nearly impossible to scratch across a run like last night.

Wood wasn't going to be hit anywhere on that day. I can't say the same for Samardzija and Quintana last night.
