Lester already has his excuse for a poor season in 2017.

Praying they pull a Major League 2 and cut him but keep him on as a coach a la Jake Taylor

It's a very non-analytic move for what's supposed to be such a modern organization. They bought Lester his woobie. But when Lester pitches the Cubs pretty much have only 23 outs at best. Can that really be made up in intangibles?

Why are Sox fans so concerned with the Cubs?

We have room on the bandwagon in the luggage wells if interested?

You happy bastards! It must be nice to quibble over an inch of height on the best RF arm I've seen since Mike Shannon. The Cards are gonna miss him, but Steve Piscotty may help us to forget.

I tell you....I expected big things from Jason last year, but he was really tentative in the first few months. Made no great plays out there and was hitting like .240. After the ASB he started putting wood on the bat and seemed to get comfortable in right; made some nice plays.

However, most Card fans will tell you that he was overpaid. Now he's really overpaid! It's hard to figure how a guy his size can have so little power. Your young guys are gonna shame him. Where in the order is he gonna hit? Eigth?

I expect him to start slow, but looking for him to cover ground...major issue with the RF and LF guys we have.

Question is, does he feel comfortable right away with younger guys? I know its only a few days in mesa, but he looks really comfortable just in the social setting....maybe he looked that way in St Louis too, but not fitting in sure doesnt seem to be a problem....so it shouldnt be an excuse...

I remember him struggling prior to the All Star game as well. The Cardinals even sat him a couple games, because he just wasn't hitting enough. Again, I would have used the Heyward money to sign both Zimmerman and Span instead. Would have had money left over too. He may be a good player, but they overpaid for him in my opinion.

Very well might have paid too much for him...but thats easy to say when you pay that kind of money, but we dont know the budget and thus it could fit right in to what they planned to pay for team salary this year, not my money, not my problem. Just win

he must like the guy, because I dont think its forced or expected in anyway...

Could also see Ross asking to be waived but stay on as a coach if he feels he is really an anchor at some point during the season, but bottom line is that David Ross wont be the reason they win or lose something.

It seems like it can be. The Cubs won 97 games and made it to the NLCS. I never said "goddamnit if only our backup catcher were better!"

Neither of the Cubs next couple personnel moves to improve the major league team would involve upgrading the backup catcher.

I see Ross taking a few DL trips this year for hammys and general pain.

I'm sure you're not crediting Ross with any of the 97 wins. Plus, he caused them to get rid of a good player in Castillo for nothing.

Seems like the kids all love him

Heyward pops for the suite

Rizzo and Bryant start an Instagram for GrandpaRossy taking and posting daily pictures of Grandapa

Maddon praises him

The "CON" man (soon to be the highest paid exc in MLB) believes he adds leadership to the team

IMHO: He must add something beyond the numbers ... there is no way to quantify what that may be ..because his numbers are brutal.

I believe Ross contributed positively to the team.

I'm not going to question Theo and Maddon's decision on Ross. It seems to be working. When guys like Rizzo and Heyward shower you with compliments and attribute their success to something you're doing, I'm not going to argue.
