Cole Hamels gave up one run over 5 innings, 3 hits and 2 walks in his Cubs debut.

Jose Quintana gave up one run over 5 innings, 4 hits and 2 walks in his start today.

Both were against the Pirates, so I'd say it's fair to compare the two starts.

You can't shit talk Quintana today while throwing praise at Hamels on August 1st.

This debate is weird now. I don't think he's been close to as good as he was with the Sox but he's 8 games over .500. With the Sox I thought he could be a borderline #1 and now I see as a #3 or #4 despite his record.

Can't say that until the White Sox fail to make it to the playoffs with the prospects the Cubs gave up for Q.

So far it looks like a good trade at 20-12 and a big win last night. He is +8 in wins for the Cubs. Far from the .500 pitcher the Subdivision keeps trying to convince themselves he is.

The eye test and every stat except W/L says that he has been a far worse pitcher with the Cubs. He has pitched better the past 6 weeks or so but I don't have the same confidence in him.

Not every stat.

Lower whip, less hits given up per 9, more k's for the Cubs. Now some of that is due to getting away from the DH but they definitely dont say FAR WORSE.

In all but his first and last year with the Sox he's had a lower WHIP than he has with the Cubs this season. He's not going to pitch 200 innings and he's going to have the fewest Ks and most BB he's had in his career.

I agree and was not in favor of the trade. Just looking at the results like JORR would.

A factor to consider for me, is that Q has had great success against the Brewers last year and this season, when the Brewers were the Cubs closest competitor in the division.
