I was thinking that he was only hurt physically. It would seem some of his issues seem to be between the ears as well. Sit him down. DL him. Do something as he's doing nothing good for the team of late.
While the turnaround of DLee (more yardwork today. Damn, where would the Cubs be without him this last month?) gives me a small glimmer of hope that professional, quality hitters like Soriano and Bradley can improve, I'm not holding my breath. Seeing mental mistakes compound poor offensive performances is truly galling.

Fontenot with signs of life as well. And who was driven in? One of the guys you have to ride until he proves he can't consistantly hit. Fox is doing just fine, thank you.

I wouldn't classify Soriano as a professional hitter. He is a all or nothing slugger. A professional hitter shortens their swing when they have men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and 2 strikes, and hits the ball to the right side, but not him. Then just now all he can muster up is another little popup to left. I would never consider him professional, Lee and Ramirez, yes.

Point taken. When Soriano gets hot, he makes it easy to overlook the ugly spots. He can be ferocious at the plate. This season? Urk.

And of that group, only Lee is showing consistant signs of improvement. Bradley and Soto are just showing a pulse. Fontenot is perhaps being exposed as unable to handle a FT gig. Soriano... gah.

Good series, taking 3 of 4. Now we need to take 2 of 3 or sweep the Braves. Atlanta is a bad team, and we should be missing Lowe and Hanson. Anything but 2 of 3 is unexceptable. Then the big one with the Cards before the break. Once again 3 of 4 is what you need, but a split may be the best you can do with the doubleheader on Sunday.

I hate to say this but I wish the Cubs would either poop or get off the pot. They go into a tailspin and then win 5 of 7 this week.

This week coming up will tell the tale. Win 5 of 7 again preferably 6 of 7. Cardinals and Brewers play each other so if they do well against the Braves they gain ground either way. Then they play the evil spawn of St. Louis.

Taking 3 of 4 was very good. Almost as good as the sweep in Milwaukee last season, which was such a key to winning the division. That was a turning point in the race. They are such a good home team this year, but really need to continue their success at home, while playing more consistently on the road. With Aramis Ramirez and Reed Johnson returning tomorrow (along with Angel Guzman-I believe) things seem to be going in a very positive direction. I expect A-Ram's timing to be a bit off for a couple games (even with 2 games played in a minor league rehab stint) but it should give the team a lift having them back.

great game by many cubs aside i just have to say that i have given soriano the benefit of the doubt for way too long. i just cannot believe how lazy and baseball stupid he is. if hes not hurt he should be benched regardless. the way he jogs around the bases and never hustles is just inexcusable.

His left knee has been a problem for quite a while and I believe it is part of the problem. But that doesn't make it okay. If it's in need of surgery, he and the team would be better off if he had the surgery NOW. As things are, he is not helping the team in any way.
