Something that Bob and Len didn't talk about but could have been a huge mistake. When Bradley got caught on that squeeze play he just gave up. Let IROD tag him instead of getting hung up so the base runner could get to 3rd. He got there but it was close. Bradley needed to get in a run down to protect the runner heading to 3rd.

Solid 0-6 for Mantle and Theriot. How in the hell do they only see 8 pitches that inning? What a joke.

As long as the Cubs come out on top, that would be alright by me. When your first two hitters go 0-12, it's going to be a long night.

Hush!
C'mon Soriano. Now would be a good time for an excuse me, swinging bunt, seeing eye lame assed whatever single. Anything!

Ah yes. That will do quite nicely as well.

I hate the way this team plays. So many times they fail to execute properly, as with the failed squeeze play tonight....or don't even TRY to execute properly-as in laying down a bunt, when the leadoff guy gets on in the bottom of the inning and all you need is 1 run to win, yet the next batter never tries to move the runner (bunt, or hit to the right side) and instead strikes out. Unproductive outs in key situations just bother me. But, I do like that they won the game, even if it was won on the HR, by the player I like the least on the team...a guy who has not layed down a bunt in just over 3 YEARS. It was a big win and a nice performance by Zambrano, giving the Cubs a chance by matching Rodriguez's fine effort as well. The bullpen did a real nice job again as well.

I wonder if Don Baylor was managing if Alphonse would bunt? Baylor loved the bunt,he also loved ripping his players in the press. I'll say this for Lou,he always seems to be paying attention in that dugout. Very alert guy (for his age). I know he may not convey it in the press room, but no one ever won a game there.

I heard Len say the Cubs were 1 for 9 when batting with runners in scoring position. Not good...but in last nights case there was some good pitching. I wonder what the Astros were?

I'm with Elmhurst Steve on "hating" how this team plays. After the Lee homer...Ramirez doubles with no outs. Next guy (bradley) grounds out to short....leaving Aram at 2nd. Next two batters do nothing...no more runs. Get em' over & get em' in you asswipes! Geez!!!

I hate to say it,but this falls on the manager. Bunting has to be forced on most MLB players today. Of course,30 years ago, none of the sluggers ever bunted. Bradley is not a slugger. ARAM & DLEE are,Soriano is Rob Deer 2009. Terrible average, but can hit an occasional homer. He needs to be bunting, too.

Soriano came up as a middle infielder. ANY middle infielder should be able to bunt and a jockey sized one like Fontenot should be not only able to make CONTACT with a pitch when attempting a bunt, but should be able to get the ball down on the attempt.

very good call on suicide squeeze...and very bad execution by fontenot. i know you have to "hide it", but he was too slow in getting the bat out there for the squeeze. wake up! Ball players start to become the prima -donna's (sp?) they are because managers stop asking them to do the very basics of the game. Brenley has been critcal all year of this team and relates that every 90 feet (whether defense or offense) is so important...and more so in the playoffs.

This team plays lazy baseball.

Oswalt is done for the night , looks like he is DL bound as he was walking really funny.
On a Side note the guy I am playing in fantasy has 1/2 the Cubs on his team damn it.
